adding data plan to current family plan online?

My understanding is that I can add a data plan for something like $20 a month if I were to get a BB and still keep my current family plan. My family currently has a regular old voice plan with unlimited texting, and I want to get a blackberry, keep the plan, and just add the data (assuming that saves money). But t-mobile.com only has a $60 plan (at the least) for new customers. How would I go about doing this online?

Basically my goal is to save money. I don't want my parents to have to put me off the family plan which obviously saves money just because I want a BB. Alternatively, how would I go about getting a BB with t-mo without a data plan, and can this be done online?

If you buy a BlackBerry from T-Mobile they will require you have the data plan unless you pay full price and the data plan can be added for 30 dollars a month to any family plan.

I don't think you can add a data plan unless you call them but I may be wrong.

You can buy a BlackBerry from eBay or Craigslist and get around having a data plan but the plan makes the BlackBerry so much better.

I'm not sure what your reading on The site but BB data can be gotton for $20 ( single line)for unlimited if your family has been with them awhile. The main person would have to call in and request the $20 data add on

$30 is correct but you can call loyalty and request a loyalty rate.

That's what I have is the loyalty but I thought I was paying $30. Just surprised myself.

OP, log onto the tmobile site using your family's account. There you should be able to order the blackberry and add the data plan.

The price depends upon how long you are a TM customer. If you are with them more then three years, CALL to speak ONLY with CS RETENTIONS: ask for the BBPref Plan unlimited E-mail and Internet @20/month (if questioned, say your relative has it). This is something you can not do on line.

As stated above: it you are able to obtain a BB (unlocked) from other than TM, you will not be locked into a term contract. If you purchase from TM you can either buy and get a month to month (no contract), or purchase and get a lower term contract rate. Before you make a move: calculate the cost of the phone and the TOTAL cost of the plan for the stated term vs cost of the phone and month to month for the same term.
