Default About Grandfathered Data Plans

i got this sweet grandfathered plan for just unlimited emailing for 9.99.

i want to upgrade the to 9780 with the subsidized price, but i really want to keep my grandfathered data plan. any suggestions besides calling retentions? or will i lose my data plan when i upgrade?

anyone got a idea how i can pull this off?

Wow...that's old. 9.99 for unlimited email...not bad.

I would just call Retentions. You should be fine. Just make sure you call Retentions.

IIRC, as long as you do not cancel the plan you will keep the current plan. upgrade or not.... but once you cancel the plan, it's done.

Yep as long as you call Retentions, you should be ok. Some regular CSR may say that they have to switch you to a higher plan but this is simply not true.

I was able to keep all my grandfathered services when I upgraded to the 9700 back in January. I love grandfathered plans. I'm gonna try to keep myFaves for Families plan as long as I can.

Never give up any grandfathered plans and options unless you do not need them now or possibly in the future. The CS are always trying to change my plans ... then I tell them to compare what I have with what they currently offer ... their case is closed. And, do not to get stuck with a new 'contract'.

I wish I knew about this before. The CSR said I had to give up my grandfathered plan if I wanted to uprade. Lame.

Yeah I was told to give up my 19.99 plan. I gave it up anyway because I needed unlimited text and the 34.99 plan ended up being the same price.

So how do you get away with that when you upgrade phones?

I will say this - if Sprint ever does away with the "Everything Data" plans, I will be grandfathering this plan for all eternity.

osutuba,

Just say you want to keep your same old plan and services no matter what. That way you can upgrade/sign a new contract and still have all the old features.

I was forced to upgrade one of my grandfathered plans when I upgraded, but my BB package went from $20 to $25. I wasn't going to throw a fit over that. I've still got unlimited texting for the family for $10 a month. That one I'm going to keep forever.

I had the 19.99 data plan for the last 5 years or so and when I bought my phone in April they changed my plan to 24.99 without even telling me. I just discovered it the other day. So I called them and b*tched and they put it back.

i really want to keep my grandfathered 9.99 for email only. its the sweetest deal because i can actually browse the internet even though im just paying for email. haha! they just dont know that i can that.

i tried to call retentions about a year ago, and i had no luck. they told me to either out right buy the phone, or switch to a different data plan rate for a subsidized phone.

but, im going to try again when the 9780 comes out. correct me if im wrong, the best advice is just to be firm that i want to keep all the features (and of course not be rude). anything else? i feel like its not enough and retentions dont exactly care.

just some background info in case it affects my case. i have never been late on a payment, and have been a loyal customer for 3.75 yrs with the same 8100.
