Default 9900 and T-Mobile grandfathered data plan

I'm thinking about purchasing the 9900 via upgrade with T-mobile. However, the rep told me that I have to get a new data plan and give up my grandfathered $19.99 data plan. If I purchase a T-mobile 9900 on ebay, will I be able to just use it with my sim card and not lose my grandfathered plan? And if it is usable, any loss of functionality? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I understand that I need a data plan. My question is will my grandfathered $19.99 data plan work on the 9900 if I just purchase one off contract and simply insert my sim card. Thanks.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Perhaps they're trying to force customers to change plans but you should be able to keep your data plan if you provide your own phone. T-Mobile has gone down the hill during the past year or so. It saddens me that they have gone to crap after the merger was announced. In almost four years I've been with them, three of those years were the BEST.

I upgraded to a 9900, and kept my old $19.99 bb plan.

Seems reps are REALLY pushing "upgraded" (more expensive) plans. Be firm, say "no" a lot, and when in doubt hang up and call back.

I upgraded a couple of weeks ago to the 9360 through the T-mobile website, was not not forced to change to a new plan. I've had the same 19.99 BlackBerry data plan since 2005.

As long as you have BB Data plan, you should be fine! I just upgraded mine as well.

So after FIVE calls, I finally found a representative who was able to let me get the upgrade and keep my old data plan. I'm glad that I get to keep my data plan but TMO really needs to get their act together!

When I no longer work for tmobile ill just pay a rep to add me to there account. We only pay 10$ for 2000 minutes and unlimited data I believe my other 6 lines have the 5g cap but it may be unlimited as well.

TMO blocked my tethering the other day. They said it isn't included in the grandfathered data plan. I told them I've been tethering for years (since my 8900) and they told me that I was only able to tether because the system couldn't detect it, until now.

Anyone else with the grandfathered plan get their tethering blocked?

Well I never heard nor read about a "4G data plan" so yeah.. Someone there screwed you...
OP, yes that actually could be right btw, but it could also very well be that they found out (since you called them) and now they screwed ya. And yeah, if the 9900 has a clean ESN, it should work.

You will not lose your grandfathered plan. I have the grandfathered plan on my 9900 and have had it since I had the Pearl 8100. Talk with custoomer retention if the attempt to strong arm you into getting another plan.

Been with Tmo since 2000 and have not had mine blocked yet. I use the tethering whenever I can.

Well if you have the $19.99 plan then you shouldn't be blocked .

Made me change in Oct. I had a grandfathered data plan and I was purchasing the 9900. My 9790 had crashed and I was traveling so needed a phone. The told me that I "had" to have this new plan to even purchase the phone that day. I was in a bind so went with it. Haven't really noticed any difference until today when I called they asked if I wanted to up my data from 200mb to 2g! What! I was told this was an additional $10 per month.
Not excited
