I'm not scared of refurbished. That is a great deal!
I'm pretty sure Fonzie would use a BB

I tried to upgrade one of my lines to the refurbished 9810 and was told it would be 249.99. If I was a new customer I could get it for 69.99. I was unable to get t-mobile to budge. I asked why a new customer could get a phone for less and was told they are entitled to the same benefits that I got 8 years ago.

    Any ideas?

$249 is a rip off, you might as well just buy a used one off ebay for not that much more and avoid using the upgrade...

That was my thought. How does the warranty work if I by one used? My understanding is if I buy from an individual I have no recourse, even if the phone is less than a year.

I found a used T-mobile 9810 that according to the seller is one week old and saw pictures. The price would just be a few dollars cheaper and if I have no warranty it might in the long run hurt less to get hosed by t-mobile upfront.

My mom really wants the 9810, I just am having a hard time getting over paying so much more than a new customer when I have been a t-mobile customer for at least eight years with five lines and paying over $200 a month.

Things have definitively changed at T-mobile, its almost as if the merger went through!

You can buy 3rd party warranties on ebay purchases through places like squaretrade

Returning customers always get screwed. All carriers offer better deals to new customers.

Well ended up ordering thru Best Buy tonight online a Bold 9900 for $99.00 for my mother. I have one already and for the price you can't beat it. Had it shipped express for 4.99 should have it Wednesday or Thursday. According to online was able to keep existing plan and add a blackberry 250MB data package for 10.00/month.

We shall see if we receive the phone and able to activate it and use it without any problems. So far this was too easy, I shall be holding my breath.
