Default 9700 OS upgrade??????

Come on T-Mobile, step up and let's put a new OS upgrade out there. It's been a long time coming. It seems we are always the last to get.

It's not going to happen anytime soon. Maybe when the next device releases we'll see an OS upgrade.

I think its important for carriers (be it T-Mo or any other) to release OS updates.

It shows customers that the carrier is continuing to support a handset, its been released, you have paid your money and are continuing to pay money to keep it on the network an OS update isn't too much to ask is it!?

I want the latest and greatest OS for my handset and I want it officially supported by my carrier.

I really, really doubt T-Mobile will release an update anytime soon. Look at it this way- how big was the uproar, complaints, and "problems" posted when the latest builds changed the Lock and Mute buttons? Now multiply that by T-Mobile's BB customer base, and get ready for the angry people to call in en mass. If they can avoid that by putting off an OTA update, they'll do it. If there's one thing we've learned from the constant never-ending posts in the OS threads, it's that no one cares what those buttons were supposed to do- they're different now, so it's evil and broken!

Besides, T-Mobile's default .330 is widely regarded as a stable OS with the best battery life.

I feel very differently to you.

I want T-Mobile UK to release a new OS to show it still wants to make improvements to the handsets on its network, not just selling these handsets in the first place.

Oh, no, I totally agree with you. I wish they would release updates. I was only explaining why they won't

No one button is a Lock button, that button locks the phone,

The other button is a Mute Button. It mutes phone calls and audio... it finally does what it should do. Standby mode [imho] was a waste of good memory space.

Last time I remember, it took TMO about 8months to release an official OS update for 8900.

However, it did not take too long for TMO to update OS for 8320. It was much quicker than 8months. But at the time, they needed to do that because the device did not work as it should. In contrary, if I recall, 8900 OS ran fine as is, with a few minor poor power consumption management.

Since .330 for 9700 runs fine with no real major issues so my guess is that we will have to wait or try those other official releases or leaks. I know that a few of my coworkers are still using .330 OS on their 9700. So far so good for them.

Judging from historical records, I have no doubt, TMO will eventually release an OS update for 9700. But it will take time and I personally do not see they do anything wrong really at this point.

It's called sarcasm. I'm happy with how they work, I was relaying what everyone else has been saying

Remember one thing with OS releases. When one GSM carrier releases an OS it's like they all did. You dont have to wait for a TMO version. Just delete the vendor xml file and go for it.

This^^^ No reason to wait for T-Mobile to release one when others can be used, just delete the vendor xml file and enjoy! Most really like .545 for T-Mobile.

My .330 has been just fine, so till I really get bored with it I am sticking with it as it seems very stable.

The reason you wait for a carrier to release an official update is if you brick your phone with another carrier's OS or a beta leaked OS, T-Mobile with leave you with the bill to fix your phone. If T-Mobile releases an OS that bricks your phone, they flip the bill. Also, you want an OS on your Berry that is UMA friendly.

I wonder why they took care of my wife's phone [8900] with a HTC G1 trackball it, and a black bezel with 5.0.0.xxx loaded on it. she lost EDGE and it would only go to edge as it's signal, i called em up explained to them that i had modified the phone, and the OS, and they said sure no problem, we'll mail you a new one, and you can send the old one back.

The firmware/OS is released from RIM, t-mobile doesn't write it. They just make sure it's "testes and proven effective" the pay the legal fees, pay for training, the put it up as "their" OS..

The os make no difference who it comes from.

and .545 is the most UMA friendly OS to date.

and if you understood how UMA works... it's not the OS that "makes it friendly".

UMA is hardware. OS is software. If the OS which is essentially the communications protocol for the phone is able to communicate more efficiently with said hardware, the end user is benefited.
