Just by going with this quote "My employer for next year plans on offering me a (cheap) phone on the T-Mobile network and it will come with unlimited texting and unlimited calling." I'm guessing your employer doesn't know/want to pay for a data plan, too. In that case, calling and texting will work just fine, and your data use will have to be exclusively through wifi. Plenty of members here use wifi only with no data plan. ( see here). Quote:

Last time I checked the etf is around $200, less depending on how long you're in your contract.
B. In addition, I have read that it is possible to pay little or nothing in order to terminate early through use of a text message. There was a post on Gizmodo a while ago about this. Is this true? They were probably referring to a per message increase in cost. It doesn't affect you (if you got the unlimited texting) even if you were on pay per message, increases like that aren't a "get out of contract free" card.
C. If this is all possible, and I am able to get the phone to take my new SIM, without having to buy the unlocked version, (Which I assume this is very unlikely) would I be able to remotely upgrade to a data plan from the device. Because then I could get data everywhere and not have to pay for it. (If my employer found out, I would repay them any expenses, but if not then I would be getting a good deal). (This may be unethical because all the people one rank above me in the corporate ladder get complete data, text and phone for free, but people in my situation only get the text and calls.) You can't upgrade to a data plan from the device. Your employer would have to add it. | |
