you would be better off just getting a brand new curve from ebay for about 325 mate (no contract attached). what you're suggesting here is way too much work and it sounds like it'll end up biting you (REALLY hard) in the ***.

"would I be able to remotely upgrade to a data plan from the device. Because then I could get data everywhere and not have to pay for it." ... wait what? when you figure that one out please call me... please

Eli
Look Eli the ETF is 200 bucks, no ifs or buts... add that to the 150 you already used to purchase the phone and voila you have $350... which, if i may add, is the original price you would have to pay for a brand new blackberry. You can do it your way if you want, just don't come back starting the "I tried to be smart but realized i really wasn't that smart" thread.

Just by going with this quote "My employer for next year plans on offering me a (cheap) phone on the T-Mobile network and it will come with unlimited texting and unlimited calling." I'm guessing your employer doesn't know/want to pay for a data plan, too. In that case, calling and texting will work just fine, and your data use will have to be exclusively through wifi. Plenty of members here use wifi only with no data plan. (see here).

Last time I checked the etf is around $200, less depending on how long you're in your contract.

B. In addition, I have read that it is possible to pay little or nothing in order to terminate early through use of a text message. There was a post on Gizmodo a while ago about this. Is this true? They were probably referring to a per message increase in cost. It doesn't affect you (if you got the unlimited texting) even if you were on pay per message, increases like that aren't a "get out of contract free" card.

C. If this is all possible, and I am able to get the phone to take my new SIM, without having to buy the unlocked version, (Which I assume this is very unlikely) would I be able to remotely upgrade to a data plan from the device. Because then I could get data everywhere and not have to pay for it. (If my employer found out, I would repay them any expenses, but if not then I would be getting a good deal). (This may be unethical because all the people one rank above me in the corporate ladder get complete data, text and phone for free, but people in my situation only get the text and calls.) You can't upgrade to a data plan from the device. Your employer would have to add it.

I am new to the realm of RIM and the Blackberry. I am very interested either in getting the Blackberry Curve 8900 on T-Mobile. My situation goes as follows:

My employer for next year plans on offering me a (cheap) phone on the T-Mobile network and it will come with unlimited texting and unlimited calling.

I am wondering a few things:

A. If I were to get the 8900 for $150 with the cheapest data plan, how much would I have to pay in order to terminate my contract early. I want to be able to keep the device so that I can then simply insert the work SIM to the phone at a later date.

Why are you double posting this? Guess you didn't care for the replies you got when posting on the main board?
