| | 8100 --> Bold 9700 upgrade ?s
Okay, right now I am using a BB Pearl 8100 with a familytime t-mo plan. I have had T-Zones since it was 2.99, and that is the price I'm still paying for it. The blackberry feature enabler is activated on my line so I can get on the net, use some apps, etc.
I'm getting sick of this phone and I'd be interested in grabbing a Bold 9700 IF and ONLY IF i'm not forced to pay the BB data service.. does anyone know if its possible for me to upgrade my phone and leave my t-zones AND bb feature enabler still active on my line?? I've read some threads on the net about t-mo being more firm on this issue..

That the same reason why I haven't upgraded to the 9700, why pay more for a data plan..

Hi - I am in the same boat with the 8320. Here's what I've found out so far from the situation. T-Mo will let you upgrade to the 9700 if you have a 'required' service of $14.99+/month. I qualify for this as I have an unlimited text plan costing this much. However, in the store, the rep told me that when they upgrade me, my BB Feature Enabler and T-Zones will be deleted and not be able to put back on my account. I told them to try anyway, and it indeed did delete these functions from my account. I had her cancel this but still missing my features. I called CS and they added them back for me...with supervisor permission. So, I may try to upgrade, and then have CS add them back for me after the upgrade. Not sure though, it's quite the hassle.

I plan to upgrade to the 9700 and as far as I can tell, any upgrade to the 9700 (or any late model BB) will require the $29.99 BB plan I don't think I'll be able to keep my current $18.99 plan. The older services don't exist anymore (although I gather they're still grandfathered for older accounts).
Frankly, why have a BB without an unlimted BB plan?

Coming from an 8100 with no data to the 9700 with data is worth it IMO. This phone blows away the 8100 and this is coming from someone who really liked the Pearl. For some reason though I only pay 24 bucks for unlimited data. What is a few more bucks? It is well worth it...again this is just one mans opinion though.

I went from the 8120 to the 9700. I can't imagine going back to the 8120.

The 9700 is worth it, I'm on the grandfathered $19.99 unlimited BIS plan lucky me, but on the same family plan my G/F is on the $24.99.

Having a Bold 9700 without the BB Data Plan is worth it to me... Because my old T-Zone TCP/IP connection still works. This might bother some people (no BIS connection) but all the apps I care about work great without it (Gmail, Beejive, Pandora, browser, etc). Penninajx is correct, only a $14.99 plan is required, so I got unlimited texting. Only saves me fifteen bucks, but we're broke right now, so even that little bit is helpful.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | When you upgraded, did they tell you anything about your t-zones plan and/or the feature enabler? I have a texting plan too so maybe I would be fine..
I guess I will have to talk to some people in the stores and see what they can do, it sounds like it still is possible...
To the expected "just pay for the BIS" replies, I'm an extra line on a family plan and do not pay any portion of my tmobile bill and I want to keep it that way... I'll keep buying BB's because they're better than any other of T-Mo's ty phones. especially in the battery life department.

I personally went from pearl 8120 to bold 9700 but I had blackberry data plan when I was with pearl 8120 so I can't really varify if you could or not. At the sametime, I agree with others here. I like the 9700 a lot better & can't imagine using it without blackberry plan. Well, I do have EM+ so mine is included in $79.99 so my bill actually dropped from when I had 8120.

I was in my T-Mobile store upgrading to the 9700. I heard another rep telling a customer that if they buy the phone outright (with no discount), they aren't required to have the BB plan.
It all comes down to if you would use it. You'd be surprised at how much more you may use your phone if you have the data plan.
