Default 3g working!

Many months ago when I came here to find out why I couldn't make or keep a call I found out via.. you guys... that Tmo's 3g was notoriously crappy and Tmo didn't seem to know or want us to know. Which I found when I called them repeatedly and they never knew how to help me. I switched to 2g and Everything was fine.

Recently I got a replacement phone from a different issue and of course it went back to 3g and I didn't even notice until I had made many calls, but it's working now. I don't know who did what but it seems fine so.. YAY!

That's all.

It's called an updated network & if you are using a 9700, a new OS that fixes most of the 3G issues.

Calling on 3G still makes me drop to GPRS and I'm on the newest OS. (Had no luck with the T-Mo official OS). Guess it also can really depend where you are.

Right now I'm on EDGE in my hometown. Really wish 3G were here. Despite the calling issues...it's FAST.

They are constantly working on improving their network so you might find service in random places you never had service before. Has happened to me on several occasions. Enjoy!

The only difference that makes is whether she has data service or not. Regardless of that, it still means she is connected to the 3g network.

FWIW - this is wrong. If anyone who only knew of T-Mobile's 3G was by owning a 9700, then I can see why there was this misconception. Before I had a 9700 I had a Sidekick LX 2009 & the 3G on that was just fine. Then I had the 9700 & it was crappy. Now I have a Samsung Vibrant, & even EDGE is super fast on this (faster than EDGE on my 9700). In fact, I keep it on EDGE instead of 3G to save battery & it's still faster than 3G on my 9700. That tells me one thing. It's the BB's rendering of 3G on the device. No one knows for sure if it's a problem on RIM's end or T-Mobile's end, but the "problem" is not that T-Mo's 3G is "notoriously crappy" because it works just fine on other devices.

I believe it would be a problem on RIM's end, at least for browsing, since it goes through different proxies. I use PodTrapper/Slacker/Pandora a lot and the 3G service is not 'crappy' or 'laggy'. Are the antennas for other devices that different? If so, that might actually explain some of the 3G issues.

I had already tried to tell the OP that the 3G network is undergoing MAJOR upgrades and that can lead to some major outages.

To clarify this statement a little.

3g means one has HSPA voice calling only
3G means one has connected to T-Mobile's data Service
3G(blackberry emblem) means one has BIS services.

There's nothing in stone saying T-Mobile is getting the 9800.

Chicago is undergoing HSPA+ upgrades. Trust me on that one. All of these outages/sudden coverage holes are HSPA+ related.
