Default AT&T to Unfurl 3G Access in 850MHz to Enhance Coverage

    fyi

AT&T is prepared to take several steps in the near-term to improve the coverage and capacity of its network in some of the largest cities across the U.S. In most regions, AT&T uses its 1900MHz spectrum holdings for its 3G network. Some time in the next few months, AT&T plans to add coverage with its 850MHz spectrum, specifically in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco. By using both sets of spectrum, it will add lots of capacity, which means end-users should have a better experience. In addition to using the 850MHz spectrum for 3G, AT&T is also going to add 2,100 cell sites to areas in need of coverage, as well as improve the backhaul capabilities of its network.

At least they are finally working on their crappy 3G coverage, but its still going to be hard for them to match Verizon and Sprint

850mhz instead of 1900mz (current) = broader coverage and better building penetration

Interesting! I live in Orange County, which is generally part of the Los Angeles area, so maybe this will be an improvement.

    *sigh*

LTE is what they should be working on as we speak. 3G+2 is worthless, until HSPDA+ hits the market.

Sprint's coverage is garbage, and so it VZW.

Well, at least I can point out your mistakes. :-) (Just kidding)

But, really? Are we being 5 years old? :-P This is by far needed for AT&T. The iPhone killed their network. I had horrible experiences with the iPhone and coverage in my area.

Wait.. wait.. Do you want me to pull up coverage maps comparing VZW & Sprint to AT&T?

I admit and most certainly am surprised the network is holding up pretty well since the launch of the 3G S here in NYC. I was honestly expecting a few hiccups.
