Default Can you force your phone to be 3G only?

ATT just flipped on 3G in Janesville, WI. I have a 9700 and my wife has an iphone 3gs. Right now my phone has 5 bars in 3G. My wifes phone however is in edge and I have the phones sitting right next to each other. We've also had the reverse of this happens where she has 3g and I only have edge. Is there a reason for this? Is there a way to force the phone into 3g only since there seems to be a rather strong 3g signal.

I'm not sure about the iPhone 3G (I can look into this tomorrow probably, but I'm sure others on here can confirm if this can be done on the iPhone), but you can force the blackberry to be 3G network only.

Go to Options, then to Mobile Network. There's an option in there to be strictly 2G, strictly 3G, and to switch between 2G & 3G depending on which gives a better signal at that time.

When I do this my only two options are 2G or 2G and 3G. I don't have a 3G only only option.

There is no way on the iPhone to keep it 3G only.
