Default ATT torch bb9800 purchase outright

Id like to purchase a BB 9800 Torch without adding to my service contract. I know I'm not eligible for an upgrade. I went to the store and asked to purchase it outright and the tech told me he could do that and also get me my corp discount on the hardware but when he went to sell it the system wouldn't let him because my account was locked because I'm a corp customer and on a corp account. can this be over looked or done away with? can I purchase this phone outright or am I just SOL and need to purchase it way overpriced on fleabay or here? any help would be great as I really love this phone and want one bad.

Whether your account is locked for being corp or not is not relevant. Tell him your name Jimmy Bob Sampson and your buying the phone for your son's birthday and you want to give it to him before he delpoys. In other word lie through your A$$. I'm an so sick and tired of the ATT bu-ll-sh-it.

Is your work berry provided by your company or by you yourself? If it company provided then I can understand, otherwise do what I mentioned above.

Yes, the accound is not in your name. There for you are not entitled to its benefits.

The discount is probably where the problems lies. Buy it without the discount and you shouldn't have a problem.

you should be able to buy it for the $499.00 retail price without a contract. If it does not work at AT&T order it from bestbuy.com and pick it up in a local store.

The benefit is the corp hardware discount. You are not entitled to it as either the account your on isn't in your name or your personal account doesn't have that FAN # attached to it.

take my case as an example..
i have a Blackberry Curve.. not under my name but under the US Gov't..
so even though i like to upgrade it.. i can't since i don't own the lines..
i have a family line with AT&T which is under my name..
the wife gets to upgrade to an iphone 4
and i get to buy a Torch.. simple.
you can't use the Corp discount if it was company issued..
did you ever pay for the phone that you have now? if NO then there's your answer.. THEY ( company) owns it and you have to return it back if you jump ship to another company
