anyway to swtcih between my iphone4 and my unlocked 9780 WITHOUT calling att?
i know with tmobile, i was able to switch between both phones with no prob, att tells me i will have to call every time i switch back and forth to change my IMEI number
is there anyway around that so i dont have to call every time?? - 03-20-2011, 11:13 AM #2
shouldn't have to call. You should be able to do it online. You just need to drop the iphone data plan and add the BB data plan.
Is this a one time switch or is this switching back and forth on a regular basis? - 03-20-2011, 11:14 AM #3
Just swap sim cards it should work.

You should be able to just swap sim cards, however if your data plan does not have BIS on it, you will most likely experience issues with the 9780...

Also if you do not have BIS, ATT will add it when the Blackberry registers with the network.

That's good to know GTWalling, thx. I swap between my torch and my iPhome 3gs. I have had any issues because my plan/contract is for the BB, so I have BIS. I have had no issues going to the iphone, and back.
OP - get them to add bis, or just have a blackberry plan, and then swap to your iphone I guess

I had to call ATT one time to switch to BB data plan. Otherwise the BB doesn't work right. When I put the SIM back in the iPhone I could no longer use Internet because I didn't have a data plan. I Googled and found I had to install a custom profile to get Internet on the iphone. There is a website called unlockit that does this. Now both phones work fine with the same SIM

Does the iphone4 not have a smaller simcard?

Hello, everybody above this line is wrong.
The only way to get BIS + Apple service is if you already have an unlimited smartphone data feature. Then you can swap all the live-long day with no worries, provided you know about the BIS+Apple data feature. Otherwise, no dice.
Oops, I neglected to cover the fact that the iPhone 4 in the US uses a chopped-up SIM that won't work in other phones straight away.Last edited by Mister Xiado; 03-26-2011 at 10:57 PM.

Best way is just make AT&T keep the unlimited BIS plan active on you account then you can switch to any phone you like, thats what I did. Since you have the SIM mod fixed you would be good to just SIM switch.

Ok so what is the BIS+Apple data feature? I originally had the 9800 with sim, then i bought a iP4 from member here, went to ATT to get the micro-sim for the iP4 had the iphone activated and still kept the unlimited data. i wanted to go back to the 9800 so i used the micro sim adaptor to use it. i do have the unlimited data/BIS plan. If i understand this correctly, all i have to do is put the micro sim back in the iP4 if i want to use that and there is no need to call ATT? i dont want to lose the unlimited plan so that is why i call. can you help clear this up for me? TIA

Sorry about the weeks long absence.
It's a very obscure feature. If you already have unlimited data for a BlackBerry, you can get BIS+Apple data. It's almost completely unknown, so do not be surprised if nobody in customer care has ever heard of it. It exists, but may require a case to have added to your line. - 04-10-2011, 02:45 PM #18
awesome and thanks for the reply, i will be calling att either later today or tomorrow and let post the results.

Alright. Just keep in mind that every time you want to switch between an iPhone 4 and every other GSM phone, you will need a new SIM card, and will need to have Customer Care activate it. A colossal pain in the neck. This is not the case with a 3Gs, though.

Shouldn't be a probablem since the data plans are priced the same. You just need the BIS access. I expect you cna get the BB data plan and then it will be seamless between both. Just use an adapter and be sure not to have the micro-SIM fall out when inserting/removing from the BB or you will bend the SIM card contacts.

Will AT&T try and get you to drop the unlimited data plan?
