Any way to block a number
I have a ex-girlfriend who will not leave me alone. Is there a way that AT&T can block her number so that she cannot call or text anymore?

You can call and have your provider change your number but that would be a huge inconvenience. There's a program on Handango I believe called Black and White where you can block calls...not sure if it will handle texts. Not sure of the price for the program but it will probably be worth it in the long run.

Call your carrier to see if they can block a number.
If none of this works, change your number.

I have a simple way to block a number. I have the number in my address book and for name I put DO NOT ANSWER. when I see that I just silence the ringer and done.

Yes, you can. Get smart limits. There is a monthly cost of $4.99.
If she calls blocked, she will get through.CrackBerry.com Mod | Retired Android Central Mod | Tech Enthusiast

block calls sms mms
black and white works perfect as stated above on all calls unknown, restricted, from phone book, call list. get it at handango search for "Cerberus Call Filter" if you go to options - security options - firewall - the settings are easy to configure for sms mms pin etc

I called AT&T because I have someone that keeps calling my phone, but they told me that I had to buy a plan called Smart Limits that costs $15 per month!!! So I became angry and hung up. I think it's ridiculous to pay $15 to block someone who is harassing me.

tis true...they always find a way.
I have a crazy ex too and she harasses me every several months. And usually from a different number. I learned just before our break up that she makes her living swindling people (case in point), so when people realize what she's done they probably have her stuff turned off...and she picks some new trusting person and starts all over again.
Paying to remove the aggrevation isn't worth it for reasons like this. So if I had to pay, I would pay to have my number changed rather than for a service.
In my case, she doesn't do it as often as she used to, but I just don't pick up any numbers I don't recognize. It takes a lot of patience to get to where I am though. I've learned that unstable people like this, feed off of answering phones--with and without anger. Just knowing the number is the same is enough too. But I've decided she isn't worth one extra buck :-) - 02-08-2009, 02:17 AM #18
I agree. Just change your number. It sounds like from your responses to all the suggestions here that you're more concerned with spending money to block her than changing your number. Blocking her wouldn't do much good anyway 'cause she could always block her number to get around it or change her number and you're right back where you started. Restraining orders are good too.

Like others suggested, just change your number. I was in a similar situation as yourself a few years ago. This was really the only way for the calls to stop.

Use youmail, you can add her number to the ditch mail list.

I had a similar situation, well a few of them, but I digress.
Anyway, I tried putting the ringer on silent for the ex, and she still kept calling and filling up my voicemail and sms inbox, so that didn't work.
Next I got Youmail, which was great for keeping her from leaving messages, and had her fooled for about a week that my phone was "disconnected", until one of her friends mentioned she had spoken to me... on the same number. Foiled again! She started calling and texting non-stop again.
Changing my number is not an option for me.
So I called at&t and asked if they could block her, they can't, but they told me about Smart Limits, so I figured what the heck, it's just $4.99 a month, and if it works it would be SO worth it. Well 2 months later and I am stalker free, no calls or text messages whatsoever from her since. I also took the liberty of blocking all unknown or private numbers. Silence never sounded so good.
As an aside, she did end up breaking into my old apartment, thinking I still lived there... but that's a whole other thread in itself.
Basically I'm saying that $4.99 a month is definitely worth it for Smart Limits. I also block any telemarketer numbers that somehow still call me, despite that blasted do-not-call list.Last edited by Fiasco; 02-23-2009 at 12:01 AM.
