Default why i believe AT&T is holding out on the 9900

I think, that in addition to trying to push the 9810 exclusive for at least 90 days, that when at&t DOES release the 9900, they will possible carry it in white as an exclusive?

that way it's still somewhat new... i mean why wouldn't RIM make it in white? they did for the 9000, 9700, 9780, 9800 & 9810 it only makes sense...

thoughts?

From what I've been told, when a carrier gets exclusivity on a device it usually comes with a sales quota attached. If that's that case, then it would make sense for AT&T to give a strong push to the Torch in order to get the numbers they need, especially with the lagging BB sales. The Bold is theirs already whenever they decide to sell it, so there really isn't too much rush.

Another thing I'd consider is that most people who have Blackberries don't even know the 9900 exists, so pressure on AT&T to sell it is probably quite small. Sure, we all know, but we visit websites dedicated to cell phones! I mean, if my dad walked into an AT&T store today to upgrade his BB, he'd likely buy the new Torch and walk out of the store happy. He certainly wouldn't hold out because the 9900 hasn't been released yet... he wouldn't know to hold out even if he would prefer that style of phone.

As far as the white thing goes- I'm sure it'll be available in white, but RIM has made white Bolds available to all carriers except cdma variants.

I would finally like get my hands on one though!

That is all very true but not every carrier gets the white bold. Like T-mobile get the 9780 in white exclusively and i guess at&t has discontinued the 9870 all together...

but the sales goal thing is right. i really don't feel like at&t is really pushing the torch like they could. i don't see commercials or anything. the last time i remember a heavy marketing push for a blackberry was with VZW and the Storm 1 and 2 they really went IN!

but then again, the torch sales must be good if at&t wanted another exclusive, it must be worth something to them

well i think its a good assumption.at&t gets the iphone 5 first before verizon, sprint, and tmo.so these carriers get the bold first before at&t.but some say its due to hardware issues with at&t's bold on the hspa network.but others say it can't be because if it did then the 9810 would to have a problem.i don't know what to believe now.im just frustrated of not having something new to play with.i don't care if the iphone 5 comes first or the bold.i'll take anything at this point.i just need to drive to my at&t store and get my new phone and im out of there.its not like im going to stay at the at&t store for 3 days or more.

The iPhone line has been reputation liability since day zero, despite what financial benefits it may provide.

But the people who make the decisions about which phones launch in which order are not those that have to field angry calls from people who cannot comprehend the concept of poor engineering.

I agree with many most of the things you have posted, it's really like this - people, Blackberry users... many of them don't know about the Bold 9900 yet, and At&T is provably pushing it to sell more and more.
But on the other hand many Blackberry "Fans" are into the Bold 9900 and waiting for it already for a few months, those are power users that make the "word of mouth" advertising, and some of those users are moving from At&t to other carrier because of this delay.. I know that some just unlock the Blackberry 9900 and use it with their SIM card but many people are switching carrier / willing to do so, and mostly those are users that infect people some how (bringing the news about the 9900 sometimes) so i think it's a wrong move of At&t..
They should get the 9900 soon as possible... people unlocking many 9900 Blackberry's each day just to use it with their Att SIM card.

I'm just going to stick with the 9810 sales quota exclustivity theory. Iphone and blackberry releases have nothing to do with it. No blackberry release is EVER going to outshine an iphone release (these days) so I don't feel one has anything to do with the other.

That or what I originally said, that when att IS ready to release it, they'll have it in white exclusively. What's very weird though is that in the original press release they mentioned the 9810 and 9900 but the 9900 didn't show up on any of the release road maps

I'm guessing that the reason/s behind the 9900 absence from At&t's roster can be attributed to a combination of factors. Since I haven't been following all of the At&t 9900 threads someone may have already brought this up, but does anyone think that the potential 1st quarter 2012 release of the QNX BBs is a major motivation in At&t's decision to delay the 9900? Furthermore, like the 9780's no show with At&t, is it probable that the 9900 will not be offered by At&T at all due to the proximity of the OS7 and QNX release dates? (Seriously, what's point?)

Everybody wants the best offering their preferred mobile manufacturer currently has on the market. At the same time, I believe most At&t customers, including myself, have no desire to spend $500-$600 on a new cell phone every 6 months or so. Again, like many At&t customers, I'm eligible for an upgrade now. I'm pretty sure I would prefer one of the QNX phones over an OS7 phone because of their reported potential and superiority. However, back in July and August I was planning on upgrading to the 9900 (had it been released sooner). Then, I read about the possibility of a QNX release in the 1st quarter of 2012. If I had wasted my upgrade and money on an OS7 phone that may be out dated within 6-7 months I'd be absolutely livid with both At&t and RIM. Is it possible that At&T is doing its customers a favor? Just something to consider.

^favor?no way.at&t doesn't see it that way.they could care less if you want qnx over os 7. its probably more because they want to sell the 9810 first.with the iphone 5 coming out on october 7,at&t will let the 9810 slide down.for them, apples mean profit.as for the bold, only at&t can explain what was wrong with it.

You just excluded yourself from most AT&T customers. Most don't know the difference and most couldn't care less.

No excuse for lack of knowledge when entering into a multi-year contract.

att doesn't really see much in terms of "profit" with the iphone. apple is "special."

search the forums. there are a few members (including one testing the 9900 for at&t) who have been known to provide accurate information. Word right now is that at&t will get it out once it passes testing. (att is known to have strict TA)

Apparently, the torch 9860 is closer to release than the 9900, but not by much.

And a few months down the road qnx will be obsolete?? if you wait for the "next" best thing you'll spend your whole life doing just that.
