Default TMO customer with Death Star questions

If you were a customer of another carrier and ATT bought you have have some questions:

How long did ATT let you keep your grandfathered plan with no changes to the service or standards?

Did ATT force you into one of their plans at any point?

Did they force you into one of their phones?

Did they offer to let you out of your existing contract?

Do wish you would have left before the merger?

I am just trying to gauge just how screwed us TMO subscribers will be. Thanks for the input.

Dont be scared I see this as being a good thing. Though Tmobile is trying to push the 4G thing hard, its just a new way to make money.

I see ATT keeping another tier for its Tmobile customers, almost the backwards tihng to do in a near monopoly.

I can answer this one:

Did they offer to let you out of your existing contract?

Legally you have the option to go within the first 30 days of being moved over onto the AT&T network without having to pay the termination fees. But they also won't tell you this as one of your options either. You have to know going in.

You've got 1-2 years before you really have to worry about it... When Cingular took over AT&TW, there was a transition period- a long one. There were "orange" customers (original Cingular accounts) and "blue" customers (people who had AT&TW accounts when the buyout happened. It took them about a year to consolidate networks and then consolidate their online accounting systems to handle everyone.

Anyhoo, these questions will be answered over time, but it's certainly nothing to panic about now. Relax. Have some dip.

Typically in the many mergers over the past two years, people have been able to keep whatever they had with their previous company, and unlimited smartphone data was converted with minimal fuss if transitioning over to AT&T-specific rate plans and features, but as mentioned above, time will tell.

If the death star lets me keep my grandfathered 6 year old $99.00 family unlimited data text and minutes, with a new BB after they knock my 3g out I will be shocked.

Hey waco,
att has been really good to me . bee with them over 10 yrs. but started as voice stream to Cingular to AT&T.was a small t-mo window but hated their coverage and service(sorry) since then I have not had the dropped calls and poor coverage you hear about, b=guess I have been lucky. and I find the customer service good. just today worked out a data glitch, money was waived issue solved , no yelling no being on hold. I kept my plans, opted to change others and am very happy with them. you get the occasional annoying rep now and then but all and all I don't see me moving from at&t. they have worked with me amicably for years.
