Default At&T warranty dept. will not cover my BB Bold

My trackball got stuck this morning and I just called the AT&T warranty dept. to get a replacement, less than a year old, and the girl said I had to of done something to the phone to cause the problem. This was her only comment over and over and she put in the computer I caused physical damage to the phone so I would have to pay $499 to get a new one. After speaking to 2 AT&T reps. on the phone all I got was the same BS answer! My BB has never been dropped or damaged, the trackball stopped working and the battery door does the usual side to side slide. Anyone know what I can do to fix my bold? Help!

HINT: for cleaning the track ball without doing a major repair,
take a soft cloth and place over the ball. Press down on the ball ... it should r release ... and move the ball in all directions if possible. The cloth should pick up any dirt. You can also use the cloth, slightly damp (NOT wet) with rubbing alcohol ... this will release any gunk built up

You can purchase a new tb for a reasonable price and repair yourself from companies like cnn.cn truesupplier.com

The $150 must be thru the extended warranty. Mine is under the 1 yr. warranty at $499!!! I better add the the extended warranty. I'll try the cloth and rubbing alcohol. AT&T said the Bold trackball was self cleaning and problem free. Is that right???

Just go and buy a new trackball for like 5 bux and put it in. Shouldn't take more than 10 min to put in. ATT said the same for me when my trackball stopped clicking. My problem was the actual contact stopped clicking (I had to take the pad apart and clen it out. Works good now). Also, since I had it apart I changed to a white housing

Some of you people should read the difference between "warranty" and "insurance".

As for the OP, just buy a new trackball, and watch a few vids to replace it. Its not hard.

If you didn't say something that sounded like you caused damage then she had no right to say that you caused damage to it.

that's bs. I have had two phones warranty replaced because the trackball was unusable. I would talk to a manager. They will ask for the color of the battery connections and the water mark to make sure there was not water damage, but they should warranty replace.

The $150.00 that your friend paid was the deductible for AT&T's Wireless Phone Insurance. Also, they gave him a refurb. Bold, not a new one.

If you mean insurance which you are paying like $5/month for, just 'drop and break' your phone and call them back...$150 deductable and you should get a REFURB no questions asked. Once you get the replacement, you send them back the 'broken' phone.

This sounds like the AT&T anti-warranty thing they have going on there. You shouldn't have to use your insurance due to mechanical failure in less than one year, but that's AT&T. I don't think they actually like selling real smartphones. But then - they could be wrong about that...

Peace...

The bold and Curve 8900 have inaccessible trackballs, meaning you have to take apart the device to replace it, the Warranty department or Device Support Center (warranty location) will swap out the device with a new one....the catch it, the device may or may not be a refurb. I know they are very low on refurbs with the Bold and are giving out new devices to people that need them. I would speak to a manager because it seems you were given the wrong information.
