Default AT&T + T-Mobile is a no-go?!

I just read this on CNN and MSNBC!

"AT&T's proposed $39 billion buyout of T-Mobile hit a roadblock on Wednesday when the Department of Justice filed to block the deal over concerns that it would reduce wireless market competition. " - MSNBC

The Reuters story said:

The Federal Communications Commission has not made a decision to block the deal, a spokesman said.

You decide

Yup....it looks like the deal could still be approved. I guess we'll find out!

I think I got too excited when I got the "breaking news" alert lol!

The FCC and the DOJ are different entities. Both articles are correct.

The FCC has to approve it, but with the DOJ questioning it, is pretty damning to it's chances of going through.

"The Federal Communications Commission has not made a decision to block the deal. But the agency's chairman did say that the combination of the two companies has raised warning flags according to data it has gathered.
"Although our process is not complete, the record before this agency also raises serious concerns about the impact of the proposed transaction on competition," said FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski in a statement." - MSNBC

That does not look good for AT&T...but things change and people change their minds. Only time will tell!

I feel like there are a lot of pretty big mergers taking place recently. Maybe that's just because my company is involved in one of those "big mergers."

Well, considering how much in payoffs and "investments" to local governments it takes cellular companies to be able to START construction on a new tower in most places, was there any doubt that the votes wouldn't have to be bought?
