Default AT&T Mobile Insurance raised prices.

Would this be considered a contract change/materially adverse and grounds for ending our contract with ATT without the early termination fee.

Changes are as follows:

Monthly Subscription: $4.99 -> $6.99
Replacement Deductible: $125-> $199

Program becomes effective Oct 4, 2011.

I'm not sure, but I would guess no. Voice, data and other fees would probably allow you to do so, but insurance isn't even with AT&T. Sprint's Total Equipment Protection is now $8. That is all Asurion's doing.

It is an ATT provided feature and is named AT&T Mobile Insurance.

Also, on Oct 5th, say my phone gets damaged and I am forced to pay the new deductible after going 2 years without an insurace claim and spending.

I appreciate the fast response. Anyone else got some information on this matter?

No... it's provided by Asurion through AT&T/Sprint/Verizon/T-mobile!

Just like roadside. It's not AT&T, just billed through AT&T.

I believe all they have to do is give you notice of the change... not sure how many days though.

Plus they sent out mailers last month regarding the change to come for October.

i am the first to bash AT&T but this has nothing to do with them. i have sprint and AT&T and my wife has verizon and all of the insurance has been raised with the same ded on all services. Please dont blame them for this one. but i have sprint only because i cant live without the 9850/9860 so sprint got me back and i also have a att chip in my 9850 so i have service. sprint got the phones att got the best coverage.

Yes it is all Asurion, not your respective cell phone carrier. Just billed through AT&T.

I gave up on Asurion awhile ago and go through ProtectCell.

Insurance is sold through AT&T and administered by Asurion, but it's RUN by CNA.

Read the bottom of this page.
Insure your iPhone with MobileProtect, the Most Comprehensive iPhone Protection

AT&T has nothing to do with the price increase, and this actually costs AT&T money. People are becoming less willing to enroll in, or maintain insurance because of the premium increase. There are already too many people demanding free phones from AT&T because they had no insurance and dropped their $700 toy in beer/the toilet.

From ATT's contract it reads "IF WE INCREASE THE PRICE OF ANY OF THE SERVICES TO WHICH YOU SUBSCRIBE, BEYOND THE LIMITS SET FORTH IN YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUMMARY, OR IF WE MATERIALLY DECREASE THE GEOGRAPHICAL AREA IN WHICH YOUR AIRTIME RATE APPLIES (OTHER THAN A TEMPORARY DECREASE FOR REPAIRS OR MAINTENANCE), WE'LL DISCLOSE THE CHANGE AT LEAST ONE BILLING CYCLE IN ADVANCE (EITHER THROUGH A NOTICE WITH YOUR BILL, A TEXT MESSAGE TO YOUR DEVICE, OR OTHERWISE), AND YOU MAY TERMINATE THIS AGREEMENT WITHOUT PAYING AN EARLY TERMINATION FEE OR RETURNING OR PAYING FOR ANY PROMOTIONAL ITEMS, PROVIDED YOUR NOTICE OF TERMINATION IS DELIVERED TO US WITHIN THIRTY (30) DAYS AFTER THE FIRST BILL REFLECTING THE CHANGE."

To me, "ANY" would include the insurance I pay for every month which is in the "Other Services" section of my bill

Am I reading this wrong or does it look like it is an increase to a service to which I subscribe?

Well, that point is easier to argue (and by argue, I do not mean scream and whine) when it's a service AT&T provides directly, like the big three (messaging, data, and voice). This is why AT&T has a stipulation that if you don't want to get suspended when going over 5GB with your unlimited laptop connect data line, you can simply cancel the line AT ANY TIME WITH NO ETF, EVEN IF YOU JUST UPGRADED THAT SAME DAY. Har har.

Anyway, it might be harder with insurance.

All I know is that if I were to cancel, I'd have no ETFs, because har har, none of my lines are in contract, nor will any future additional lines be. Ah, the magic of literacy, common sense, and the ability to use Craigslist, eBay, a soldering iron, and Youtube.

Not saying you're wrong or I don't believe you, but is there a link to it so I can read up?

Technically, just like roadside, it's not AT&T providing the service, so it may be somewhere else in the contract that states that.

My contract only covers the changing of unlimited dataconnect/tethering packages to limited services being grounds for cancellation with an ETF waiver, or the absolute withdrawal of service from a given location, but no other circumstances for contract waivers.

AT&T Wireless Customer Agreement - Wireless from AT&T

Yeah, they did word it "ANY" service. Very interesting. I'll see if I can't glean some more information on this.
