Default At&t data downloading

I was wondering since at&t no longer offers unlimited data, if I were too download something like an email attachment with my phone, would the download itself count towards how much data I'm using?
If so, if I were connected to wifi, would the download still be counted toward my limited amount data I'm allowed to use per month?

Email uses a pittance of data. Web browsing uses much more, and streaming media uses significantly more than that.

WiFi doesn't use the cell network; AT&T doesn't track it, much like how you don't get charged for driving on highways that run parallel to toll roads. If you get billed for data while using WiFi, then you're doing something wrong.

I am an ATT customer with their lowest tier plan (200 megs a month). I get large attachments in e-mail several times a week. Hundreds of e-mails every month. I am careful not to stream video or music off WiFi and run a traffic app 2 hours a day in commuting. Rarely does my usage go above 70-80 megs a month.

That said this month I made a mistake with a WiFi control app and did not connect regularly at home. The first 10 days of my billing period ran 90 megs of my allowance. The app is now gone and I am careful to use WiFi whenever possible. Usage is now back to the ordinary numbers again.

I down graded from the 2gb to 200mb. I am careful to always use wifi especially at home so I only use up data when I'm at work. Average around 80-100 mb per month and saving $$$ too! With the way the economy is who can afford to smoke and drive a car?!?! And yes I know smoking is bad for me!

attachments count toward data usage, but generally it takes a lot to be noticable useage.

web stuff, refreshing apps (like google map w/traffic) use more.

streaming pretty much anything is the huge data usage.

when I don't stream music (slacker) i'm in the 100 MB per month range, and that is heedless of wireless v. data and app usage.
