Default SIM-Only BlackBerry (prepaid or 30-day rolling)

Hey guys,

I may be visiting the US at some point, as I have family there that visit for several months a year, and would be taking my BlackBerry Torch with me if I go. What I would like to know is, is there any 30-day rolling contracts or prepaid BlackBerry deals available for the Torch, with AT&T? Seems due to the radio chips inside the phones Big Red/Sprint is off the cards, meaning my only option is Big Blue (I'm currently on the UK's Big Blue, O2).

Many thanks
Daniel

AT&T does not currently offer BlackBerry Data on pre-paid.

You might look into the Even More Plus Plans with TMobile as the only option.

I do this trip about 3 times a year as our son lives in Charlotte, NC and we are stuck in Reading UK.

Both Mrs. Pete6 and I are on O2 and we both have SIMplicity 600 deal that are 1 month rolling deal - I bought both phones, full price.

O2 have a travel deal that reduces the cost of data from total extortion to simple theft and we have that on both UK phones too since we also travel quite a bit within Euope (retired, see).

In the US we both have 8310s and I stick AT&T GO Phone cards in them and turn the data off.

If I need data, I just use my UK BlackBerry as little as possibe or, I use the WiFi and a laptop at my son's house.

I have not yet found a deal that gives an quitable deal in the US as well as decent coverage.

The AT&T GO Phone is easy to get. My son just picks us up a coule of SIM cards or $29.99 phones+SIM cards and I stick $25 on those and it just has to be enough. You can add data to these cards but it is not BIS and it is very expensive per Mb. Feature Packages - Wireless from AT&T.

IMO the US carriers are missing out badly on the transient and tourist trade by not offering a pre-paid BlackBerry plan

So ATT doesn't allow month to month? I'm in the same situation coming down from Canada for at least a few weeks this summer and while I can reduce my data rates to $1/MB with a roaming package, that may still add up considerably.

TMobile used to offer BlackBerry Data on the Even More Plus Plans but they recently discontinued them. You might call them and see if you can get it.

If you want a short-term line for use in the US, check with somebody who already has an account and doesn't mind adding you onto their service for a little bit.

You can always start with no contract, but if you're using a non-AT&T phone, it's up to you to configure it. The reason why I said to get a line on someone else's account is because people who are not US citizens have a default $500 deposit requirement.
