Default Iphone buying question?

Hi, my dad has at&t with my mom, my brother and his parents all under same bill. I have vzw, He has been going on for about a year about wanting an iphone...anyways to make a long story short, he got a free android and now has that. It's always freezing up on him and he seems to be too confused on it. He really likes my iphone, and i orignally wanted to surprise him for xmas and get him the new iphone but he saw the word free and jumped on the android. Anyways I still want to try to get him the iphone, but obviously he's not due for an upgrade anytime soon, my mom has been due for an upgrade for over 3 years, She does not have a data plan, i was thinking would it be possible to order the iphone for my mom and than have it switched over or unlocked or whatever needs to be done and than put his number on it? the only problem i am not sure on is, if i do that, will my mom have the data plan? i know she will be locked into a contract again which is fine, but if i am able to take the phone and switch to my dad's number, can my mom go back to her standard phone? or is she also locked in that data montly fee? Thank you in advanced.

You can use your mom's upgrade for the iPhone and give it to your brother and, no, she won't need a data plan. She will, however, be responsible for the smartphone etf should she decide to cancel her service, so you should probably mention that to her beforehand.

Just call AT&T and tell them what you're wanting to do. I've done this with my sister before and we're not even on the same family plan. Keep in mind you'll need one of your parents to be available in order to get access to their account, so just be sure they're around when you call/visit a store.

Merry Christmas!

Thank you for adding to my thread. Ha. I knew I'd get someone like you with the whole overrated fanboy/hater game to post here. Even tho I posted in an AT&T forum to ask a question related to an account. Not the phone quality itself or even asking to join AT&T.

I have heard over seven thousand separate people bemoaning the travails of iPhone ownership and Apple's fatal allergy to its customers' support requests. My your chosen creator have mercy on your belief in the persistence of your own existence.

Anyway, AT&T doesn't doof around with phones like Sprint and Verizon do. You can swap phones at will. All you need is the proper data feature on certain smartphones. Android and Windows phones work with either iPhone or BlackBerry data, but the iPhone and BlackBerry data features do not work with the opposite phones. The contracts are on the lines. The insurance is on the lines. The phones really don't matter. Do whatever you like with them. Wherever your SIM card goes, there also goes your phone number and all of the services attached to your line.
