Question I don't think a MicroCell is needed for me, right?

We had to go to the AT&T store today to replace a phone and the rep told us we could have a free MicroCell..... um ok... but I'm not sure we really need it. We don't have 3G where we live but signal in our house is 5 full bars on EDGE. Also, my husband and I both have Torches so if we're in the house we're on Wifi..... That being said, we probably don't need the Microcell right? Unless we wanted to be able to be on the phone and browsing the internet at the same time because we'd have 3G? And if we're home, we'd likely just be on the computer while on the phone if needed.

I'm just looking to see if I'm missing something about the Microcell. We won't be paying the $20 / month for unlimited so I really don't see what the need would be.

Any advice would be great.

thanks!

Free is free, what if you move or there is a network issue? It is free after all, or is it? Read the fine print if you take them up on the offer.

I would like to know if these microcells work for people? I contantly go from 3g to edge to sos in my home as I live just outside of a good area where it starts getting patchy. Would something like this help me to keep a signal?

Yep, totally free (unless we wanted to go to unlimited calls at $20 / month which we won't do). Given that wifi data is free (except a pesky issue where I'm getting data usage even on wifi at odd hours of the day), it really doesn't make sense for me to use it so I guess maybe I'll play with it, confirm it works, then put it back in its box. 3G would only matter for me if we didn't have wifi in the house.

I do know some folks that live in the woods down in a hole and have no signal otherwise and have the microcell and love it. Works great for them.

I tested a Verizon microcell last summer. I'm in a poor signal area where I normally would have to step out of my house to make or receive a call. With the microcell, that problem went away and it was like the tower was in my back yard. Now, the microcell I tested was voice only. I'm not sure if they have a vocei + data out now or not, but since every phone should have wi-fi now, that is a mute issue.

Thanks. This is something I may look into. While my coverage is good in my town it's very up and down at my home. Funny to sit here and watch it go from full bars 3g to edge then gms and sos back and forth throughout the day! I know nothing about the microcell but sounds like it may be worth looking into if it helps my phone coverage. I also have great wifi at home so no need for data here baring an outage.
