Default How do you know if your PIN is released?

I was playing around earlier and switched between my AT&T 9800 and my unlocked verizon 9650.

I didn't want to go too far and putz anything up, but how do I know if the pin is released?

When I try to login to Verizon BIS to verify, it states my account has been deactivated and won't let me go any further.

When I connected the 9650, I got a a message stating my blackberry has been registered on the network and when I go to the AT&T BIS site, it sais a new device has been detected.

Oh and the network shows as EDGE instead of edge.

Presumably you put your AT&T SIM card into the 9650.

If this is so and the AT&T network recognized and registerd this phone AND you can make phone calls AND you are seeing EDGE (Uppercase) then the 9650 is fully unlocked for all carrier use.

Does this answer your question?

No.

Verizon seems to be anti-helpful. You don't need service with AT&T to be told if a BlackBerry is tied to someone else's BIS service. You just need to be connected with technical support.

Also, technical support can see if a BlackBerry from ANY company is attached to a carrier. If it is, all that carrier has to do is zero out the BIS account (by deleting the PIN and IMEI/ESN from the BIS account).

It is not difficult to do, nor does it take very long. The most difficulty you will have is loading carrier-specific service books and programming APN settings, but there are threads upon threads on how to do this here.

Soon as you drop BIS from your account on any carrier then PIN will drop.

im pretty sure for a GSM phone, the minute the SIM (with an active BIS account) is inserted into a new unlocked phone it will automatically drop the old PIN and activate the new one on the account. i used to switch between my 8900, 9700 and 9800 with no issues on AT&T. its mostly CDMA phones, which require activation and account changes either OTA, by phone or by web, everytime you switch a device. these are the phones that you may need to release from accounts. like i said, ive never seen a GSM phone need releasing, only CDMA.

another reason why a PIN may need to be released is because of an outstanding balance. but again, this is mostly for CMDA accounts that wont allow ESN/PIN combos to be activated on a new account, leaving a balance behind on another.

so like i said, GSM devices i think get released automatically, CDMA ones may not.
