The issue with simply putting a AT&T GoPhone simm in a At&T BB is most likely do the fact that AT&T locks the sim to the orginal GoPhone for 6 months IF the starter kit had a $10 dollar or higher "free" credit when it was activated.
I just worked though the same thing with my Tour, I had a little Nokie GoPhone that when I put it's simm chip in the Tour, I got nothing but emergency calling.
Even putting that chip in non-blackberry AT&T phone wouldn't work, called the AT&T 800 number and they fixed me up with a new sim card and swapped my info over to the new card and it worked, all I had to do was go by a corporate AT&T store to pick up the chip.
Once I had the new chip, it worked just fine in my Tour. Of course I didn't have AT&T BIS but at least it was "unlocked".
If you buy a cheapo GoPhone kit with prepaid credit, they are just locking you into that cheapo phone, kinda like the tradtional "locked" carrier phones but with a twist, it's locked to that EXACT phone rather than any AT&T phone.

Would it work? |

Yes the new unused simm chip kits on eBay work fine as long as there isn't the free GoPhone credit, a friend of mine got one off eBay which technically the Gphone starter kit with $25 credit and activated it on the Sprint Tour which later he found out it was tied to the Tour and wouldn't work on other AT&T phones!
Just get the simple sim chip only with no freebie credit and you should be fine.

GoPhone accounts will not work with 3G phones...Period. The GoPhone accounts are setup to only use EDGE network. When you put a Go Phone chip in a 3G phone the phone can't read it.

| | 3g go phone?
that's funny, I've used go phone sims in several 3g capable phones. got my kids mot v3xx with a go phone sim and 3g connected. Wife has gophone sim in her sync, also a 3g phone. btw, I know it's only printing on the sim, but the gophone sims have the 3g logo as well.. :P
seriously doubt the issues anyones having has nothing to do with 3g/edge..

They just say Go Phone on them. The normal SIMs that are half blue and white with the ATT Globe say 3G on them. Those will work in any ATT phone. It doesn't matter what calling plan the SIM is on. What matters is what that particular SIM card # has been programmed in the network to be recognized as (regular or prepaid). SIMs specifically labeled as Go Phone SIMs are only able to be used in 2G devices, but I'd be curious to see if you turned 3G off if it would work.

I'd like to point out that I have been using a GoPhone prepaid plan with my BlackBerry Bold 9000 for the past 6 months. You CAN get 3G reception with the GoPhone SIMs and here's a simple tip for you who want to get a prepaid plan with the Bold.;
Buy a new GoPhone Nokia, or other cheap phone. (Toss this crappy phone in the garbage, or keep it for backup incase you need one ;p) Activate it with your Bold's IMEI. There. You are all set and now have a working prepaid plan on your Bold. The only thing is that I suggest you get unlimited text ($20) or unlimited talk & text for $60 dollars. Every time you activate those features they last exactly 30 days. The only thing I hate about using GoPhone is the downright crappy data packages they offer. 1MB of data for $4.99 and only 100MB for $19.99. They also don't offer BIS service through prepaid. Hope I helped.

| | Help me please!
I have a blackberry bold 9000 and I was wondering if ill be able to get the goPhone plan to work! I would like to purchase the 50$ unlimited everything (talk, text, data) and was just wondering if it would work! I want to be able to send/receive calls and texts as well as go on the internet. I know I wont be able to use the default browser and BBM due to the fact that there is no BIS on gophone but if I download a secondary browser will I be able to use the data? Also what about email? Im not very technologically capable so keep that in mind
Help me please!!!!!

ERGH.
Auto-provisioned BIS service is 2GB, $25 monthly. You can choose 200MB, $15 is you want, though.
GoPhone SIM cards have to be unlocked while they're in the phone they originally came with in order to be used in other phones. GoPhones on their own can be used with any postpaid SIM.
