Default Etf?

I'm currently on AT&T and looking to change over to Sprint. My contract is not up until Jan 2012. I know I have an upgrade available in September. Can I leave AT&T in September without an ETF as well or do I have to wait the entirety of the 24 months?

Well when I asked, they told me I had to wait until my contact ended.
So I just added a basic phone onto that line and now i'm waiting until February 2012.

Unless you purchased your device after June 1st 2010:
Quote:
Beginning June 1, 2010, we will reduce the ETF in new and upgrade two-year service agreements for all customers who are buying basic and quick messaging phones. Whether you are new to us or upgrading handsets, the ETF will decrease to $150 from $175, and be reduced by $4 for each month that you remain with us as a customer during the balance of your two-year service agreement. After the term commitment is completed, the ETF will no longer apply.

That's exactly what I was looking for! The two customer service reps I talked to did not seem to know what I was talking about and kept referring me to the $375 prorated ETF, which I knew did not apply to me. I purchased my device in Jan 2010. So, I think my ETF is $175, since the ETF was pretty standard before the change in June 2010.

Your upgrade date has next to nothing to do with your contract date.

You can be out of contract and still not be eligible for an upgrade if you have a terrible payment history and have your service suspended more often than there are full moons.
