Default Complain to AT&T to Unblock BB Maps

AT&T - 1-800-331-0500

The girls on the phone were real nice, but they say AT&T flat-out will not support BB Maps.

They don't block Google. They don't block BING. It is a targeted interference with YOUR phone and YOUR data. It's not THEIR service it's YOUR service cause you buy it.

Even if you don't care, even if the launchers you download work just fine, call anyway. This is BS and these types of business practices need to be stopped wherever they occur.

Call if you are T-Mobile too!! AT&T will soon be screwing you!!

If people keep calling they'll have to listen eventually! Just be cordial to the people on the line please.

Why does AT&T hate BB Maps? I have Sprint and BB Maps works beautifully. I can understand your frustration. If they are going to offer Blackberry phones they need to support ALL their features.

Default How to enable Blackberry Maps on At&t

First of all it is basically the theme they use natively. What you do is download the Software for your device from and use Blackberry Desktop Manager and load BBMaps to your device from the selections in the application menu. Then use another theme than the one that is default on your phone (IE ANYTHING NOT ATT) If the icon goes away you could use the jad called bb maps launcher to launch it. At&t tech support is bogus actually any phone company tech support and they wont tell you how to get the truly best service. Belive me I know first hand as I used to work for a major cellphone company call center. And I know this is off topic but may I suggest a hybrid os? I have seen a huge amount of improvement on my curve 8330 and would expect the same for your Torch. Just let me know if you need more help By the way I don't have the honor of being able to post links just yet so anyone can pm me for the links

Don't these carriers suck? I recently learned about BlackBerry maps. I use Sprint Navigation, but I like the maps feature, too.

The BB Maps Launcher works great. No doubt about that. Everyone should search for it on the forum.

I don't like getting denied my fair share is why I called, and why I think other people should call.

AT&T should be annoyed cause I was annoyed.

If it's installed you can always get around it by just launching the app with an app
that uses BB maps. All they do is remove the icon through services books. But it
doesn't actually uninstall.

then why bother to complain? If they say they flat out will NOT support it, then they won't care what anyone says. Right up until customers cancel in droves due to this issue. And frankly, not having BB maps is not a deal breaker- for me anyway. They have their own navigation software to push, and plenty of people probably use it.
As posted above- the BBmaps launcher works for most, so if you need it, you can use that.

I just got an insurance replacement this weeknd. Magically on my Torch BB Maps is working!! I installed .576 and the icon was on my homescreen when I was done. So far works like a charm! With all this being said I think AT&T unblocked BB Maps so maybe everyone should try to download it or reinstall? Hope it works for everyone, its much nicer than having to have the BB launch icon

@BBGirl88, check your vendor ID, press ALT-SHIFT-H. The ID should be 102 for Cingular/ATT. If it is then the theme is coded to remove the icon for BBMaps. If your Vendor ID is anything other than 102 you may have gotten lucky an gotten another vendors device possibly unlocked.

This does not work. You must use a launcher of some sort on an AT&T device. And complaining to them will do nothing. They sell a $10 a month navigation package.

And complaining is not going to do it as the bbmaps is blocked from day one on your contract, you are in fact not paying for it. But you can return the device and cancel your service with them.

I know I would leave them as their service in my office area is worse than string and paper cups, but we get a good enough deal through my wife's work that we saty on. Otherwise, AT&T is rotten.

I get BBMaps up with no issues using Quicklaunch since AT&T doesn't give us the icon. They can't remove it from the phone.

Complaining to AT&T won't do anything honestly.

Use Google maps and quit crying. BB maps is useless by comparison.

BB Maps renders better and faster since it's vector based. But Google Maps is better overall. The traffic overlay is a great feature, even if it's a good 10 to 20 minutes behind real time (at least in my area).

Using the download from the BB mobile site, I was able to get BB Maps on my Torch. Even switching back to the default AT&T theme, the icon is still there, and still works. Of course, I'm now using a theme that is based on the stock theme, but uses the OS 7 icons. So I get the more colorful BB Maps icon now.

BBMaps is not at all useless by comparison, you just don't like it. I prefer it to Gmaps, because it works better and faster for me.

And the OP was not crying, simply asking a question. Perhaps if you have nothing constructive to offer, you might keep your post count down and allow the s/n improve.

IMO, Google Maps is the only way to go. Blackberry's native Maps have proven fairly useless on the 2 Blackberrys that i owned. Everyone has there preferences Nd once again AT&T is playing Big Brother to its subscribers. Still, as much as i hate others contriling my choices, this may actually be.a smart choices by the Death Star.
