Default Change number mean ETF wave?

I want to change my phone number and someone told me if I do that I will have the chance to upgrade my phone as a new line, Im using the same number for like 6 years but I only have 5 month with AT&T ... Any one know if this is possible so I can upgrade my device?

Default

Means no such thing. If you start a new line of service then sure you can get another phone. Another phone with a new line of service. just changing your phone number means you pay for the change and then then still have the same account contract as previous.
