Question Can I use 2 phones for the same line (at different times of course)

Hi all,

I am on AT&T as the main line in a family talk plan. I have an iPhone 3GS but just bought a BB Torch Refurb from them for $9.99 with no activation fee. I just don't think the iPhone is for me based on no physical keyboard, how it integrates with outlook and a few other things but I wasn't QUITE convinced so I didn't move on the Torch until I saw the $9.99 price.

I have an unlimited iPhone data plan which I'll be able to keep but the woman on the phone said when I get the BB, I'll have to call them to give them the IMEI on the new device (using the same SIM card as what's in the iPhone now) and then they will also change my data plan from an iPhone plan to a BB plan.

So my question is this... I've seen a lot of posts where people say they go back and forth on their phones and which ones they use. Would I be able to do that? I'm thinking not because of the difference in data plans and having the IMEI registered but I wasn't sure. There are some things I like about the iPhone which it why I'm asking, it'd be nice if I could just swap the SIM and go back and forth.

thanks in advance!

You can but the BIS traffic gets pulled through the BB servers. I sim swap for reviews frequently.

Thanks for the response. I'm not quite sure what that means though. I know what it means as far as how the BB acts when the SIM is in there, but what happens to data when I am on the iPhone with the SIM in there if it's a BB data plan.

And a follow up question, if you can swap, what's the whole thing about them needing to activate the new IMEI number?

The iPhone will use a lot more data.

I have friends who switch between Iphones and BB's and there is no issues, as long as you are using a BB data plan.

The data works fine, because you arent connected to BIS, and just using raw network data.

Ok thanks for the clarification. So ultimately, the IMEI doesn't mean a whole lot. This is good news since it means I can be REALLY sure I want to give up the iPhone before I actually do.
