Unhappy Baited And Switched :~(

I have a 9800 Torch that has been enjoyed since beginning of year. One of the apps I use most and find very useful is AT&T Maps. For the past few weeks I had been getting a notification when launching Maps. "New version of Navigator available" Upgrade or Remind Later. After growing tired of having to go through an extra step multiple times a day I called AT&T Customer Service because of a message "Telenav Inc. contains a module Navservice already exists in At&T Maps. I was concerned about any possible changer to the Maps app and actually could care less about Navigator since I never use it. After a lengthy 45 min call I was told "the apps may share a module, but they are separate apps and updating Navigator to get rid of the prompt when launching Maps will have no effect on maps. WRONG! After several failed attempts (Download Failed. 907 Invalid COD) it finally successfully updated Navigator AND removed Maps entirely. I was told that Navigator is not in (being used) my account. No kidding. Also that Navigator is better than Maps and has same capability. Why would I want to pay $9.99 a month when AT&T Maps works great for me and is part of the original free app package? Being in a new state one of the main reasons for getting the BlackBerry was for the GPS feature. I found YP app that is not nearly as accurate as Maps. It basically shows nonexistent roads in my town and is very slow to respond. Another GPS Tool app has a map, but no zoom capability.

I am extremely disappointed that by upgrading an app (Navigator) to get rid of an annoying upgrade message while launching an app I was happy with has caused all this grief. Why would they not just place the upgrade notice within Navigator and leave AT&T Maps alone! ? I can not help but think this is a ploy to get users to abandon a free app only to pay for another they may not need.

I spent an hour in an AT&T independent store this morning and they suggested resetting the phone to factory spec. This would wipe out all my settings and if it did reinstate AT&T Maps it would reinstate the same upgrade notice for Navigator. Having to reset/adjust all my settings and contacts does not make sense to me. Can't the individual app be reloaded?

There has got to be a way to simply get AT&T Maps back onto my Torch. What can be done?

AT&T Maps was merged into the AT&T Navigator application, so now it's all in one.
There's no way you can get it back, since you already updated and it was a carrier pushed application.

Unhappy

That is really bad business IMO. So my only option is to have AT&T restore my phone to pre-sale configuration and live with the annoying upgrade Navigator message.

Will take a look, thanks. Have you ever directly compared it to AT&T Maps?

As a side note, BlackBerry Traffic seems to be a great free app. I personally like old fashioned maps and route planning on my own.

I'm pretty sure that even if you do that, you still won't get AT&T Maps back.
It's gone for good. I would just leave your device the way it is now, and download Google Maps, as said above.

The only "downside" of Google Maps is that you don't get text to speech directions, so you HAVE to look at the phone after choosing your destination.

It's really nice on the Storm, to. I almost regret giving that phone away.

Question New Problem

I have been running Google Maps for a few days and have begun to really like some of it's features. Today a problem arose that AT&T could not help me fix.

I get the message:

Application Permission-The application Google Maps is attempting to reset the Security Timer.

[] Don't show again

[]........[]
Allow Deny

No matter whether I choose "Allow" or "Deny" it pops back up two to four times before going away only to reappear moments later.

What is going on? AT&T said they have never heard of a "Security Timer".

What is it and what does it do?

Press don't show again and accept.
It's because you have a password on your device, and it has to access it so it won't lock while/if you're using navigation.

Thumbs up

Thank you very much. Wanted to be sure would not dig into a deeper hole if selecting "Don't show again".

By password I assume you mean an internal BB one since I have not set any.

No, the normal security password. It asks for that whether you have a password or not.
So, if later on you device to add one, it'll already work the way it's supposed to.

I use the combo of Google Maps and BB Traffic and it works great. Was never fond of ATT's version.

BlackBerry Traffic

With many places to go and people to see, arriving on time can be a challenge. Thanks to BlackBerry® Traffic, you can easily plan to be on time. Before you get in your car, you can establish your estimated time of arrival (ETA), find out if a road is closed, or decide to take a faster, alternate route. Heading to a friend's place? Simply grab their address from your BlackBerry contact list, get your ETA, then email or text it along with a preset message to avoid keeping them waiting. Making and keeping plans just got much, much easier.
