att.com data detail

looking at my account on att.com I am looking at the data detail for my son's Torch and I see 2 types of usage. One reads blackberry.net and the other reads wap.cingular. what is the difference?

also there is one rather large download at t time I know he wasnt using it. if I called att could they look at their records and see what it was?

It also includes other data such as streaming audio (Pandora, Slacker radio, iheartradio, etc.) that does not go through BIS.

I see alot of these during times that it should be using my wifi ( I'm here and know it is working ) and also during the night while sleeping. So much so that I now turn my phone off during the night although I'd prefer to keep it on. The majority of my data usage are these charges and I can't for the life of me figure out what is connecting like that as I have barely any apps and all should be using wifi ( and I know the wifi wasn't out during many of these times).

There's no point in necroposting, since the website no longer tracks BIS and WAP data usage separately. Same goes for *DATA#

Didn't realize that bringing a thread back from less than 2 mos ago would be considered necroposting. Hopefully this is a smaller sin than NOT using the search feature.

I have yet to see any resolution regarding what type of data is being transmitted in these periodic "updates" that are sent to wap.cingular and blackberry.net. I would be ever so grateful if you could enlighten me.

Look at your usage on your online account. You don't have two separate data bars anymore.

As for each session, it's keepalive connectivity with RIM, waiting for a message to come through.

I have no issue with data bars - my question was about the pings out every 10 min. Seems it might have been location data, I turned off my GPS yesterday, and wouldn't ya know.... the pings seem to have stopped around the time I turned it off. Highly coincidental, I agree. It was exceptionally circumspect for this to magically appear on my statement AFTER the iPad/iPhone location debacle reared its ugly head. Now AT&T has plausible deniability ... "of course we told you! It's on your bill!!"

BlackBerry data sessions are persistent connections to Research In Motion, waiting for new messages. They release periodically if the phone is idle, and restart. You may see 7kB sessions at regular intervals in your data details because of this. It has nothing to do with AT&T, and a day's browsing of these very forums... wait, never mind, most of everything posted in the forums is ignorance and FUD.

Also all cellular carriers keep location and timestamp records of all SMS, data, and voice sessions. On-phone logging settings are an issue you take up with the manufacturer if you can't be bothered to look through your phone's settings when you get it.

Ive been having the same issue with my curve 9300. Whenever I download, use apps, and pretty much do anything I make sure in conneted to wifi. But for some reason this past month, my data has been going thru the roof. And I know the wifi is working at my house, boyfriends house, and my work place; my phone says im connected. So far this month att has already added the additional $15 for an extra 200 mb twice!!!! Ive called att customer care and they couldnt figure out why this is happening and why such large amounts of data is being used. They compared this months data to my past months and I never used near as much as this month. Ive called them twice and went to the store once. No one can tell me why this is happening. Ive deleted and shut down are un-needed apps ever monatored what data I used and when I was and wasnt in wifi. Att has credited me the extra $30 for this month but Im worried if this keeps happening for the coming months; and of course theyre not going to keep crediting me the money. Im not sure what to do. Maybe its my phone? It says its connected to wifi but isnt? is that even possible?? Any help?
