Exclamation Secret Codes on the Storm

First-of-all, credit goes to cyba.cowboy and his/her thread here: http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...91/#post259673 I'll also add in a few (s)he doesn't mention. The first part of this list was compiled mostly by other users, but I can't remember who; I've just got them all saved on my Storm in a memo from ages ago. The second part is what I've found out, except for where noted.

Second-of-all, please make sure you've read the description of the code before you let your fingers mate with the keyboard. Otherwise, you could make something bad happen; none of these are dangerous, but it's still best to have a clue about what you're doing before you start. Anything with an by the name shouldn't be tampered with unless you know what you're doing or want to destroy your Storm. (EDIT: You can access everything here without repercussions, just don't edit the settings in the codes)

These all work on the Storm 9530 running 4.7.0.148; if they don't have any visible effect, you're doing something wrong, your phone is different, or I got a unique Storm with superpowers (please let it be the last one!).

Sections:
  1. These are hidden, sometimes for a reason. View at will, but don't tamper unless you know what you're doing.
  1. These are harmless and can be helpful. No worries here.

READ ME (legend):
  • "Alt" means the "!?123" key. To lock it, click and hold it for two seconds or so, and release. It should have a blue outline and a tiny lock symbol in the corner. Then, press the keys mentioned below.
  • There are no spaces in any of these, they're spaced for clarity.
  • You have to be using the QWERTY layout. You can be in either vertical or landscape orientation, but those of us with huge fingers may find it easier in landscape.

Code Section 1: Alt-locked secret screens
• Name: Decibel meter.
• Description/purpose: Displays your signal strength in decibels, instead of bars.
• Process: On the homescreen, lock "!/123" and press ! , " " (repeat to reverse the effect).

• Name: Address Book file verification.
• Description/purpose: Checks the data in your Address Book for inconsistencies.
• Process: In the Address Book, lock "!?123" and press $ * L 5

• Name: Address Book data structure rebuild.
• Description/purpose: Forces a data structure re-build in the Address Book...
• Process: In the Address Book, lock "!?123" and press 3 ? L 5

• Name: View source code.
• Description/purpose: Displays the source code of a Web page.
• Process: In the Browser, lock "!?123" and press 3 ? $ 4

• Name: IMEI display.
• Description/purpose: Displays your device's international mobile equipment identity (IMEI - your serial number) on-screen... Also works from all other GSM handsets.
• Process: On the homescreen, lock "!?123" and press * # 0 6 #

• Name: Event Log.
• Purpose: Displays event logs of all the system-level events that occur on your device... clearing this and setting the events to "hide" will help out memory issues.
• Process: Lock "!?123" and press " / " /

• Name: About screen.
• Purpose: Displays detailed information about your Storm.
• Process: Go to call screen and dial #4357*
• Note: # and * are supposed to be there. Press them.

• Name: CDMA Service.
• Purpose: Displays your phone's inner workings. This is one of the codes that aren't meant for normal users, and chances are, your local Verizon lackey doesn't know about this. That being said, don't mess around with this. Changing anything may f*** up your phone, and a backup may not be able to fix it; this is like messing around with a computer's BIOS. You have been warned. /dramatic
• Note: Only works on some phones, I think.
• Process: Go to call screen and call ##000000

• Name: Advanced Settings
• Purpose: Displays the intricacies of your phone. You do not want to mess around with this if you don't know what you're doing and don't want a bricked BlackBerry. It's fine if you don't click anything, but I wouldn't chance it; if somebody scares you, you could end up changing your PIN (danger: hyperbole detected). Read more here: forums.crackberry.com/f135/advanced-users-only-unlock-hidden-engineering-screen-storm-251693/#post2849858
• Process: Lock "!?123" and press 2 * 9 2
• Alternate process: Click & hold the physical 'Back' button, then tap the screen in the following places: top left corner, top right corner, top left, top right.

Code Section 2: Hidden shortcuts
• These require the keyboard to be up as well.
• Name: Message shortcuts
• Purpose: These can help you navigate your Messages. Discovered these myself. You have to be in the Message list screen itself, not in a message.
In Message Screen, with Keyboard Up and in QWERTY:
• C: Brings up Missed Calls in your messages.
• E: Brings up all messages.
• V: Brings up saved messages.
• S: Brings up Search.
• D: Selects the previous day. For example, if you're in the December 15th section, it will take you to the top of the 14th, and so forth.
• J: Selects the next day. For example, if you're in the December 14th section, it will take you to the top of the 15th, and so forth.
• Enter: Opens message.
• G: Compose SMS.
• L: Compose e-mail.
• A: Puts you on the reply screen for whichever message you had selected.
• O: Puts you on the Forward screen for whichever message you had selected.
• T: Scrolls up by one message.
• U: Scrolls up by one screen.
• B: Scrolls down by one message.
• M: Scrolls down by one screen.

• Name: Typing shortcuts.
• Purpose: These are helpful while typing. Discovered by others; if I find the thread where I found these, I'll post it. Type what you see on the left side of the equal sign to get the result on the right.
In a message, with Keyboard Up and in QWERTY:
• Br = (
• Rb = )
• Myver = current version of OS.
• Mypin = your PIN.
• Ld = Date
• Lt = current time
• Mynumber = your phone number, with area code
• Usrid = Whatever Name you have specified in the Owner section of Options.
• Click & Hold any letter = Capitalizes the letter if it isn't already so.
• Select & Hold any letter = Brings up derivatives (for examples, if you select A, it will show all A letters with accents and such.)

• Name:Browser shortcuts
• Purpose: These can help you navigate the Browser. Discovered these myself. You have to be in the Browser.
In Browser, with Keyboard Up and no text field selected:
• G: Go-to screen.
• D: Home screen.
• A: Add bookmark.
• T or E: Top of browser page.
• B or C: Bottom of Bowser page.
• U: Go up a screen.
• M: Go down a screen.
• L: Zoom in one level; press again to zoom in more.
• O: Zoom out one level; press again to zoom out more.
• Z: Zoom in close; press again to zoom out.
• Q: Hide banner at top.
• Delete: Back a page.
Apologies to our beloved mods if this has already been done; I didn't see it anywhere, and a lot of people seem to be looking for Storm codes.

That brings up the help me screen, which provides some info, but you need extra steps to get in to the engineering screen where cool and/or horrible things may occur

On the Storm with 5.0.0.328,

L does nothing, I zooms in one level (I for in, O for out)
Q does nothing, but U shows/hides the header
T or X top of page
S shows browser option screen
F or V = Search
K shows bookmarks
C shows connection info, not bottom of page
P shows page URL, gives option to copy URL (that can be useful)

I loved my Storm, although the lack of application memory, belabored surepress functionality, processor speed, and screen size were frustrating.

Now I have the Droid X. This phone is Light years ahead of the competition. I may keep my Storm for an alarm clock though. It sure is pretty.

True. Tyhth's generator was taken down less than a week ago, unfortunately, but those who get their hands on a code, be warned.

Yeah, I should have mentioned which OS I'm running. I'll edit the first post.

P.S. Metalocalypse is awesome.

You can find tons more of these in options -> AutoText. There are many helpful typing shortcuts if you just browse through the list.

Some work for storm and some dont, these were meant for BBs with keyboards so there are some variations and some will not work.

And there is a mirror for the eng. code generator out there

No, all of these work on the Storm 9530. At least, they work on mine. I'm hard pressed to think that RIM sent me a unique Storm.

with OS changes things change....you are running 148 which is sadly ancient in RIM terms.

http://forums.crackberry.com/f86/sec...0/#post4306211 <-this points out some change

Not sure if this is anywhere, couldn't see it. It's not unique to the Storms as it work on my old 8700.

Tapping the space bar twice in a message puts a full stop/period after the last word and will capitalise the first letter of the next word.

I don't see an option for calling up my keyboard when I'm in the home screen - how do you get around that?

On 328 the keyboard won't display in landscape mode but will in portrait. I have portrait keyboard set to full keyboard and set one of the side convenience keys to virtual keyboard
