I have .103 and am with Alltel. Data works only when it locates 1X. I also noticed that the phone hunts for 1XEV all the time which is causing battery drain.

Mine finds 1XEV just fine. Stays that way until I try data connections with the Browser or Viigo. Then it tries on 1XEV for several minutes, switches to 1X and loads what I requested. No battery drain on my end.

Yes Verizon has purchased them. But, when the merger is complete (networks) then you can purchase a Storm for Verizon. However, when you activate your phone you will have to change your calling plan to Verizon. From the merger info, you would have to Canx your Alltel contract and pay the canx fee or buy the phone at full price. But, you cant activate it on your Alltel plan, you would have to switch to Verizon (again, see above for Canx plan). Yes, I know what this sounds like but from what a Tech friend told me thats one of the many ways to get customers to change over to their rate plans. Verizon is more expensive then Alltel. Example...I have two BB's on Alltel, 700 Minutes and 12 in my circle. (2 Extra circle for being loyal and 200 min extra for a mistake made by them). The Wife and I never touch our anytime minutes. Plus, unlimited Data and TXTing. After Taxes and such we only pay 150.00 a month. Thats with 2 phones unlimited data. Verizon...NOT EVEN CLOSE. They have the 49.00 per phone data plan. Crap, thats 90.00 for just data. If this does happen, I will have to switch to Sprint and get stuck with whatever BB's they have. If you dont believe me on the prices, go to the Web and look it up. What I have found is with their first circle calling plan, plus basic data for BB's (29.99) comes up to 170.00 a month before taxes. Thats 20.00 extra before taxes. Taxes would be about 13.00 more. So I am seeing 33.00 more a month for less data options. With Alltel I even get tethering with the wife's pearl. If I wanted unlimited (only 5 gig a month per phone on Verizon's terms of agreement) its 49.99 per phone. That is just plain crazy.
This is why so many Alltel Customers want to get the Storm working properly on Alltel's network. Would anyone using Verizon like to share what they pay on a relatively new contract?

its 29.99 per phone data plan...that is the unlimited data, i use data ALL day long and never have even gotten close to the 5 gb... the bes data plan is 44.99 with verizon, which is what you will pay on alltel as well i believe
I just came from alltel
500 min
2 blackberries
no insurance
10 my circle = 160ish with taxes
current verizon
1400 min
2 blackberries
insurance on both lines
vizual voicemail on storm(2.99)
10 friends and family = 210ish with taxes
taking off insurance and visual voicemail would make it almost 20 cheaper, so i pay $30 a month more (roughly) and have almost three times the minutes, had a recent job change and use more minutes so thats why i have this plan, not too bad (i dont think)

Thats about what I figured, around 30.00 more or so. On Verizon I saw the 29 for Data, how much data do you get? What does it give you. I use my BB for casual content. Mostly with Facebook, Viigo and some web. Would the 29.99 be fine for the normal home user, not the power user?
For alltel, my bill is as follows:
89.99 Mycircle 10 Smart 500
after taxes, 103.17.
Second line 40.00
41.29 after taxes.
Total 151.71 with State/E911 and all the other crap.
I dont have insurance (I usally get the next best phone after a year or so)
Verizon'a website has 49.99 listed for unlimited data blackberry solution? How did you get it for 44 for each phone? I know its only 5.00 cheaper a month, but thats 10.00 per month, total 100.00 per year, not including the taxes saved.

I have verizon, I pay $29.99 per month for unlimited data up to 5gb usage (im not getting flash so i don't think i'll be anywhere close, yet lots of youtube could cause this I bet).
Calling plans are $99.99 unlimited, but I have four lines, and I pay $109.99 for 1300 shared minutes. Our lines are primarily calling other verizon customers so we don't need to go unlimted at $100 a pop.
I've been a verizon customer for over four years, and I love the service. I do have to say that the storm seems to get less reception than any other phones I've used, although with the headset on, it seems to be much better.
So it sounds like although Verizon bought Alltel, the Alltel customer plan is still in effect and essentially still a separate company as far as phones and contracts are considered. It is interesting to note that verizon emailed me last week, and I'm assuming as a result of the buy or merger, is now offering 10 "friends and family" n umbers to be added to our plan for us to call for free at any time (including land lines). I am willing to bet that's a perk that will disappear after alltel customers are all officially merged to verizon.

Okay, I have to say we are way off mark now. The post was for getting the Storm to work on Alltel. Does anyone have any idea how to get 1XEV data with the storm on Alltel? I have full functionality on the Storm except the data speed of 1X. Is it possible because of no actual Verizon towers right now? I know there has been talk about trying to change the MIP password. Has anyone been able to do this yet?

I figured out what's causing the 1X issue... just need someone to figure out how to fix it.
I put my Storm on Alltel today, and everything works flawless... except the EVDO. Since I triple checked my settings I called up a friend in Alltel and had him take a look at my data logs to see why the EVDO wont connect once it tries to establish data. I had a feeling what it was, but I needed his confirmation.
Long story short: The MIP username setting in the programming... worthless. He ran my logs, and even though I reprogrammed the MDN@bb.alltel.net username they were still showing the Verizon domain instead of the bb.alltel.net ... so I power cycled, connected again and had him check and sure enough the timestamps for the data connection updated, but my username was still showing Verizon.
This is why the EVDO isn't working. The 1X SIP works fine, and that connected. But when it tries to connect MIP (username is std, and the eSN is verified for password) it keeps coming up with verizon's username.
He's pretty sure its hard coded into the programming and it would probably require someone w/ some knowhow to figure out what to tweak/hack to get it going.
Thoughts?
D.
