Many DVDs have multiple audio tracks. You (or the software) mistakenly selected the director's commentary track. Make sure you select the correct audio track before converting.

That is the problem.....I did not make any mistakes. I have nearly 30 movies converted now. But there have been a few DVDs that no matter what audio track I choose, I still end up with the directors cut. I have tried each of the choices given....taken all those hours encoding only to have the directors cut again. In the little preview window the movie played fine with no commentary. But after encoding there it was....

Now I will add that all movies I have had problems with were rented DVDs.

The preview window in DVDfab only plays the currently highlighted audio track and not necessarily the one selected for ripping.

Are you sure the correct audio track is the only one with the check mark selected? You should only have one audio track with a check mark.

Also, don't forget, Handbrake also has a step to select which audio track to encode. Sounds like you may be selecting the director's cut in Handbrake (vice the ripper).

To test this, after ripping from DVD but before handbrake, load your extracted dvd into something like DVDshrink. Then you can confirm if you selected the correct track.

Yes I have checked only one audio box etc. Let me repeat that I have done nearly THIRTY movies with absolutely no problem. THREE have given me fits.....new Star Trek, GI Joe Rise of Cobra and Talladega Nights. On all three I have tried multiple times to rip and encode the movie and it never matters which audio I selected, the finish product is the directors cut.

What about your audio settings in Handbrake?

Try the intermediate DVDshrink step to isolate if DVDfab is ripping the correct track, or if it's ripping multiple tracks.

I have direct experience with two of the movies you listed, and they converted without issues. Not saying it's your error, as you might have some setting done incorrectly (likely), or you have horrible luck with 3 defective DVDs delivered to you (unlikely).

buxleyp, you have a lot of patience, esp. with someone pointing a finger at everyone expect him/herself.

On zrxoa1's behalf, I too did this process with the new Star Trek movie, and sure enough it has the director comments in it.

Now, I've done quite a few of these, but I'm sure I'm the one who screwed up. I do remember selecting the correct track in DVDFab, but I did not verify the track in Handbrake. I'll have to rent the Star Trek movie again and see if I can't rip it w/o the comments.

Thanks for the help!

Well I tried for the fourth time and got GI Joe with no commentary but it came out in black n white. Fifth time was a charm....got it right. Not sure what exactly I was doing wrong. Only two English options and I tried each several times.

Still scratching my head....

Did you document your settings in DVDFab and Handbrake so you can replicate it next time? Might be a good idea in order to avoid future frustration and time consumption.

I love the step by step guide. I've got the programs, but could only find version 8 of Dvdfab. I have a problem finding the copy of the file after running it through dvdfab. I created a target folder to house the files but cannot see any files after its finished. Does anyone have experience with the version I have, and if so, what is the process of getting the files to the point of converting it with Handbrake? Am I supposed to copy the DVD to the target folder, or rip the DVD as MP4 to the folder? Everything else seemed pretty straight forward to do and I didn't have any problems with the audio track or commentaries. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Just got it working. Must have been something to do with the destination folder for the copies of the dvds. I changed it and got it to show up...everything else falls into place. Thanks again for the awesome walkthrough! This has made me love my Storm 2 as if it was brand new!

Wow it has been a while since I tried this program. Haven't tried it on a Windows7 Machine but will try soon.

Trying some new videos because of my new as yet to be received purchase Playbook.

Not sure what to do since the screen size is different.
