| | Storm 1, you are honorably discharged.
Well, it's over.
I remember eagerly awaiting my Storm 1 last year. I remember how impressed I was.
In the end, a great deal of it was because the Storm was my first smartphone.
Part of it is the phenomenal BlackBerry experience.
But in the end, there's always something newer and better out there and while I've never replaced a phone so quickly, I just couldn't resist the temptation of the Droid. Granted there were flaws with the Storm 1 but none that were hugely annoying. I just wanted something new and fancy.
It arrives tomorrow, I'm down to my final 24 hours of the Storm life.
Thanks to all the posters here, this is a great community and since everyone is upping their game now, I have a feeling I'll be back here soon with the next huge BlackBerry OS upgrade.
It's been a fun ride. |

let me know how you feel about the droid's general UI responsiveness vs the storm when moving around quickly or multitasking.

Think you are being too nice to the Storm 1. It should be dishonorably discharged. If you didn't find the Storm 1's many faults annoying....you are going to be in absolute heaven with the Droid then. The user experience is so much better. It just works. It does everything the Storm does and then some, and it has none of the problems the Storm did.

Also general UI responsiveness and multitasking is 5x to 10x faster on a droid than a Storm-1 in my experience.

$Matt | Would you consider the storm as responsive as other blackberries(curve, tour, bold, 870**), or less?

I would say myself after messing with a friends Curve that the Storm 1 with OS 5 was actually more responsive than the Curve (w/ OS4.whatever they both sucked horribly). OS5 still had problems though...big ones...and a full year+ later that was just unacceptable by this point. Esp. since most of the competition doesn't have the problems BBOS has in managing application memory and general responsiveness (I don't count Windows Mobile in this at all..., about the only real competitors are iPhone/Droid/Palm, and don't forsee Palm lasting against the iPhone and Droid, Windows Mobile will hopefully die off).

Well I've been using the Storm since the very fist OS release, now I am up to 5.0.419 and it's pretty good, so I thought, until I bought an iPhone that is. And realized how pathetically slow the Storm UI truly is, especially web browsing.
When I compare the two, I find myself using the iPhone 80% of the time and the Storm only for company e-mail and calendar which I have to admit rocks! But that's as far as any black berry goes, they excel at exchange based e-mail and calendar, no other phone or system can touch them, but everything else? I'm sorry to say that the storm is garbage.

I disagree. The iPhone can attach to Exchange and it does it beautifully. I think email/calendaring capabilities of the Blackberry is highly overrated. The Droid handles all of this awesomely. I dare say even better than the iPhone does, definitely better than my Storm did. The ONLY thing I miss from the Blackberry are Sound Profiles. It's a feature that the Droid and iPhone both lack. On the Droid side though, aside from missing that feature, there is not one thing that the Storm does better than the Droid. Not one.

my thoughts:
much snappier than the storm
i miss BB's push for yahoo email
i'm sure hardware keyboard bbs have a much nicer keyboard than the droid
i still type quicker on my storm but i have a feeling this may change with time
otherwise the droid wins out in everything else

Man im so sick of the storm bashing! All the time, god damn.
Yes, it did get released well before it should have to make it in time for the holidays, but it wasn't a hardware issue.
I have 5.0.0.419 and it constantly blows away my roommates iphone. Sure, the iphone makes a fancy twist on the screen when you turn it sideways. Some things I can trade for a battery life of longer than 20 hours.
Same thing with the browser... learn to use it and it's not terrible. While I can admit safari is better, the BB browser is nowhere near as 'horrific' everyone says. I can surf pron just fine.
Apple keeps addings "new" features to the iPhone, inorder to 'prolong' an iPhone's shelf life... We all know the list.
1) I could cut and paste on my 7200 what... 4, 5 years ago?
2) I had voice control on my Sony Ericsson t616 like 5 years ago... AND you could set it to respond to a name. So without even touching it you can dial someone.
3)I could video record on my old nokia S60 phone also 4ish years ago.
i could go on.
I would like to see a CNet review of a storm 1 with the newest OS5.
Edit: Sorry i got ranting there. At least it's an honourable discharge. Enjoy your new toy.
