| | Storm 1 problem *need answer now*
i bought a storm 1 off ebay and got it in the mail. its a great phone. i love everything about it.. but there are a couple problems i am facing and cannot seem to find an answer. sometimes it is really slow. like when i push on a button it takes forever to even cooperate and pop up. the internet is really slow sometimes. i have been doing battery pulls many times a day since i bought it (only 2 weeks) and it helps a little but not really. but, the main problem is much worse. i text alot, so therefore i use the smstext messages and it has been doing this thing where when i scroll up on someones conversation there are black lines that go all across the screen and i cant read anythhing anyone said if i scroll up or down and the lines get worse as i scroll and scroll and they have like different colors inside the black lines kind of like when a screen breaks and the different colors come up, but the only thing is in the sms texting is the only place where it does that. it doesnt do it on internet anything else or even blackberry messenger when i scroll up. its really really weird but it makes me mad because i text alot. anyone have suggestions??

This is so difficult to read.
Try the official, .328, none of the hybrid nonsense.

I would load .419, it has been perfect on my 9530.

The Storm on the newer OS's should be quite responsive. Perhaps you might have a corrupt database or something? I've never experienced that problem, so maybe someone else will be able to help out there. You may need to wipe the OS off and reload it. There is a LOT of information about doing that in the tips and tricks section or the OS section.
For the SMS problem, there is a bug in the VZW release and a couple others that causes the lines if the conversation style is set to "bubbles." Go to options-sms text and change the conversation style to lines. That should fix your problem there and there's almost no difference between bubbles and lines. Frankly, I'm not even sure how they came up with the "bubbles" name because there are no bubbles...lol!
Oh yeah, to actually get the OS number, go to options-about and get the number off the third line down (first number right under "smartphone." FWIW, .328 (which it should be) was a fail on VZW's part. Most people will recommend you load the .419 version available from MTS Mobility. Again, everything you need to know about doing that is in these forums, if you choose to go down that path. I would probably concentrate on getting the sluggishness gone first though.

RIM has abandoned the storm 1 so hybrid's are the future..
to get rid of the black scrolling lines (if you don't want to try a hybrid OS) goto options > SMS text > change conversation style from 'bubbles' to 'stripes'

My Storm runs so much better with a hybrid than an official OS. My advice would be to go to bbhybrids.net and install either TheArchitects' or OneOfaKindDPC's hybrids.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | Backup and Prepare Phone: - Backup data with Desktop Manager (Must be 5.0 or 5.0.1)
- Backup third party applications with BBSAK
- Wipe data with BBSAK (or JL_Cmder)
Prepare PC: (This is primary reason I keep 1 PC in a Mac household) - Under control panel, uninstall all previous operating systems
- For this hybrid, install 5.0.0.419 or 5.0.0.484 as a base
- Install hybrid T_heArchitect-Storm-9530-9500-Hybrid-V-1.5-517-607 (my current preference)
- Use Shrink-A-OS if desired to reduce size of OS (I'd recommend at least removing unused languages).
Load OS to Phone: - If Shrink-A-OS was used, click "Launch Loader App," otherwise navigate to C: - Program Files - Common Files - Research in Motion -AppLoader and run Loader to load the OS to the phone (not through the Desktop Manager!)
- Once successful, restore data to phone using Desktop Manager
- Restore third party applications using BBSAK
- Battery pull and enjoy
