| | RISM can bite me.
The lack of support for a device that has been out 9 months is disgusting. I hope HP buys them in a year as they seem to be in the market for out of date smartphone technology. I am full blown disgusted with this company and I will never give them a penny of my money, it hurts me to even pay the data plan to VZ which I know RISM, or Research in Slow Motion is getting a part of. They have no idea how to operate in a consumer market. If I could manage I would switch out to my old LG 5200 until I can get around to getting the Droid X or whichever Android comes out next month that will be 100x better than the 9800 or even the Storm 3 which looks to simply be a rehash of the S2 just so it can run 6.
Sick of RISM ignoring current consumer demands, I hope that Android can up their security in certain handsets so that they can finally dislodge RISM from their perch with the government sector.
Unfortunatly have been residing in a hospital for the past month, not for me, but the wife and all the doc's have Blackberries.
Android or Iphone needs to develop a better system for email. Maybe not put so much into you know blazing fast UI's, awesome media features, and browsers that make RISM's look like smoke signals.
Disagree I don't mind.

I'd agree that the Storm 1 and 2 are BB's story of trying to run before you can walk.
To bail on a product in circulation (for all intents and purposes) after only 9 or so months is appalling, yet not surprising.
I feel like there is so much more that BB can offer based on being first class in the messaging world, but Iphone and Droids are absolutely sh1tkicking RIM's products in Media and Browsing... things the Storm 2 were supposed to be Better at.
I'd assume that you had better get ready for more pain and suffering as technology upgrades continue to come in shorter and shorter gaps, and ultimately it's us consumers who are to blame for buying into these contracts to get reduced purchase prices on these devices.

Exactly thank you Johnny you couldn't have said it any better, I am locked into this lousy contract with this stupid Blackberry.
Funny thing about the ole the grass is always greener on the other side, sadly in this case it is. RISM is stuck in 2008.
They couldn't even update their stinkin icons for christs sake. They have been using that same Bold icon set for years. Creativity is something that RISM has never given a flying monkey **** about. Quote:

Well, I'm probably (unfortunately) switching to Android next time around, but I won't be buying anything until the end of the year anyway. Well unless my Storm two accidentally gets run over or has some other sort of unfortunate accident. And I actually like my Storm2, I just don't like it enough to want another of the same thing later, which is pretty much what I expect from RIM within the next six months or so.
As far as OS 6 goes, here's the deal. I'm going to be flat out honest here and say that I just plain don't give a rip about OS6. What I DO give a rip about is that we have a virtually unusable browser and that I purchased the S2 AFTER development of the Webkit browser began with the understanding that we would receive the new browser. There it is, the browser is ALL I care about. ALL I FREAKING WANT IS A USABLE BROWSER! DID YOU HEAR THAT RIM? It has taken RIM at least a year to slowly whip up a browser that still may not be as good as the one on Android AND it's only going to be available for OS6. I do NOT believe for even a split nanosecond that it is not possible to get a usable browser on the Storm2. RIM just doesn't want us to have one because they want us to buy a new phone.
But why would I buy a new phone from RIM? I honestly can't think of a reason right now other than SurePress and I would rather have a usable browser at this point. Buying another phone from RIM will mean buying another phone that is at least a year behind the competition; a phone that still packs the minimum hardware requirements to run OS6, which means it won't be upgradeable next year and between now and next year it's going to be at least somewhat clunky because the hardware is overwhelmed by the OS.
And let me say it again for RIM to hear. ARE YOU REALLY NOT SMART ENOUGH TO CREATE A USABLE BROWSER FOR DEVICES THAT ARE ONLY 9 MONTHS OLD???
I've held on and waited, and waited, and waited, and I just don't think I can wait any longer. I like my Blackberries in most respects, but the things that are problems for me are HUGE! I want to stick with them, I really do, but I don't think I can unless they pull something out of their behinds soon.
Oh yeah, I don't think the 9800 is going to be a hot seller. It looks nice and everything, but it's not enough. Not enough processor, not enough memory, and an ancient display. And it's on AT&T, so it won't compete with the iPhone and it's certainly not going to draw even BB addicts from other carriers.
Sad...makes me want to cry...

It doesn't make me want to cry, because as of right now, for me the most important things for me are (in order of importance)
1. Making/taking calls
2. Making/receiving email in a speedy, safe and secure way
3. Keeping my calendar and appt's synced and sound with outlook
4. Performing Google Maps and well.
5. Texting/BBMing
6. Media Activities (MP3's, video clips, streaming)
7. Web browsing
8. fun apps (Games, etc)
My BB Storm 2 does items 1-5 very well, better than Iphone or Droid can do as far as I can tell from looking at friends etc, it does 8 fairly well, but fails epically at 6 & 7... I guess I could always go buy an IPod for this, but I bought the Storm 2 to replace three devices and get rid of a paper calendar/diary/notebook...
baby steps
that all being said I am very annoyed as of right now that RIM hasn't gotten an announcement out yet on updating the Storm browser... sadly I cannot use any other Smartphone that will sync my personal and work life except for a BB (Work rules) therefore I am stuck. |

4. Performing Google Maps and well. Not nearly as well as Android
5. Texting/BBMing Texting, no better than Android. BBMing, who cares?
6. Media Activities (MP3's, video clips, streaming) Not as well as Android
7. Web browsing Not even worth mentioning!
8. fun apps (Games, etc) Once again, not close.

This is a hilarious thread. More of the same 'ol, same 'ol isht. To the OP, sorry about your wife, I can't even begin to imagine, I honestly hope things get better for you. But, your ants about BB are...well, perhaps the result of the strain your under. You don't like BB? Fine, move on, don't let the door hit you in the a*s on the way out. Not every phone is for every person.
To ChuckH who says the browser is "virtually unusable." Say what? This is the kind of statement that just makes the hairs on the back of my head stand. unusable? Is it the fastest? no. Is it the best? no. But is it "unusable?" I use it every day and while not the best, it gets me there and without a great deal of painful waiting, just a little bit. I eagerly await 0S6, but in the meantime, I'm not without a usable browser! Please, tell us where you heard some official statement from RIM stating that webkit would be available on your Storm 2? I must have missed that one, because it's news to me. Rumors? Yes, but nothing official, and yet, you act like it's RIM's fault you jumped the gun.
Just more drivel and rants.

the media activities and web browsing is where Storm misses the mark in comparison to Android/IOS

Just an amusing observation......
I was at a VZ store yesterday to buy a battery and there was a professional looking fellow in there buying some new accessories for his new droid x. From his conversation with the rep, it seems that he has had his phone a couple of weeks.
He gets a call.
He fumbles with the phone.
He misses said call.
Says it was just his wife and can call her back.
A discussion ensues with the tech about how clunky the PHONE feature is. (the tech also rocks a droid)
Just sayin.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | I have the Droid X right now and if the guy couldnt answer a phone call there is a problem with him, not the phone. I have my screen locked, when a call comes in you get a green phone icon on the left side of the phone and a red phone icon on the right side of the phone. To take the call you drag the green icon to the right, to silence the ringer and not take the call you drag the red icon left. It doesnt get any easier than that, and my screen is locked.
Just sayin.

RIM = Rejects In Motion. BBos6 welcome to 2008. If you want the latest and greatest technology, stay away from RIM. RIM will be the next Palm.
