Default Replacement phone from Asurion Problems

Okay so maybe I'm just being a little bit picky here but heres the list of problems that I've found with my new REFURB replacement phone....

1. The chrome is not a nice shiny chrome color, its dark almost like they oxidized it or something.

2. Battery door doesn't feel snug, and I've tried a couple different battery covers on it.

3. Screen Flicker, Like it says the screen is "flickering" the lcd looks like its like losing power and flickering once in a while.

4. It came just a little scratched on the top and bottom pieces and the battery cover had a few scratches on it.

The phone works like it should for the most part, but do you think Asurion will send me a replacement phone for the replacement phone they sent to me the first time?

Wow, way to go Assurion/VZW/whoever...lol! Seriously... I am completely appallled by the condition of the refurbs they send out. Normally a refurb is a product that is restored to like new condition. They are generally carefully tested and are as good or better than new. But apparently bot for these folks! I can't believe how many posts I've seen of people getting refurbs that were never even checked much less repaired. Pathetic! And yes, I would raise a stink (in as nice a way as possible) and get them to repplace it.

Isn't the Storm 1 pretty much discontinued now? I would expect the quality of the "refurbs" to continue to decline until you just can't get them anymore.

Last Sunday just 2 hours before I had to leave town for a 3 day seminar, work related, my Storm slide off the couch and landed face down on something hard on the floor. The impact shatered the screen. The Storm is usleless without the touch screen. When I touched the screen it wouldn't highlight the button my finger was on, it was all over the place. So I found a Verizon store and they told me tough luck. But I had purchased insurance when I got the phone so I called Asurion. Great, the said they would over night a replacement phone to my hotel. The replacement was suposed to include a replacement phone, a battery, a charger and a SIMM card. The replacement came the next morning. I opened the package to find a referbed phone, a charger and a battery, the SIMM card was missing. Checking the replacement phone I find the screen is not functional. It would click ok in the middle but was difficult around the edges and along the bottom I had to squeeze the screen between my thumb and finger as hard as I could to get it to click, just barely. So I called Asurion and they say sorry your phone is bad, we will send you a replacement over night. I was assured that the package would include a SIMM card this time. Next day the second repalcent phone arrived. I open the box to find another referbed phone, a charger and a battery, no SIMM card. The screen was functional so I set it up and it was working ok. But I called Asurion about the missing SIMM card, they say oh we're sorrry, we will send you a SIMM card. This was the last day at the hotel so when they asked me if I wanted the card sent to my billing address I said yes and confirmed the address. Later that day I get an email saying the SIMM card had been shipped and the shipping address was to the hotel I had been staying at not the address I had confirmed the day before. I call Asurion about the wrong address and while on the phone I have my referbed Storm in my hand, the phones come with clear plastic scratch proteting film on various parts of the phone. It is not glued on but is more of a static type of attachment. I pulled the protective film off of the camera lense area, the plastic cover of the phone came off with the protective film!!! It did this while I'm on the phone telling them the screwed up again by not sending the SIMM card with the replacement phone. The plastic cover for the camera lense was not properly glued on and practicly fell off. So I tell the agent about what just happened and she says "I'm so sorry sir, we will send you another replacement phone.

For criying out loud, what kind of crummy quality control do they have in the referb factory. These phones are falling apart. Over a weeks time they will have sent me 3 referbed phones, 2 of which were faulty, and who knows what the next one will be like. I asked if they only have referbs, I was told they do sometimes send new phones when available. The Storm I had must have been one of the rare ones that worked, I had it since Dec of last year and had no physical problems with it, just the usual software/OS problems.

And the first replacement cost me $50.00, the other referbs have been free. The people on the phone have been nice and respectfull but what they have said regarding what is shipped has been off. The quality of the replacement phones is KRAPP!!! And now that I have taken one of there replacements any future warranty claims will have to be thru them instead of thru Verizon, I can't tell you how much that insprires me.

Has anyone had any dealings with Squaretrade? I was thinking about using them for my wifes Tour, because of the increased rates VZW Asurion has now. I ended up getting cold feet and stuck with Asurion. Posts like this make me second guess my desicion.

Why not use the simm from the old phone? Why do you need a new one did it break too?

& and the refurbs that come in a big box with a bat cover and green dot on the box lable are good. The ones that come in a small box no bat cover and no green dot suck.

Here is an update on my asurion replacement storm's. 1st referb the screen wouldn't click around the edges, sent it back after having it one day, next day 2nd refurd came, it worked ok but they didn't send a new simm card as they asured me they would so while I'm on the phone with them I peeled the protective film off the camera lens cover and the whole plastic cover came off with the film. I told the lady what happened so she said to send it back. Next day they sent me a brand new storm complete with all the goodies, charger, ear buds, usb cable, battery, sd and simm card. After the last phone call they asked me to take a survey, I told them their people were great but the refurbs were terrible, maybe that helped to get them to send the new storm. No problems with this new one, to bade it took 2 refurbs to get a good working phone. The refurbs they sent all looked great, no cosmetic problems just had functional trouble.

Default 2nd replacement Storm worse than the 1st

I am now about to send back both replacement phones to Asurion. The screens suck, the edges feel dead. I'm feeling that I must have got lucky when I purchased mine and got a perfectly working screen. I have checked out 6-7 other Storms from other people and their screens suck too. They just say that they need to press hard on the edges. My original got wet and wouldn't return to the previous screen so thats when I called asurion. Of course now it seems to work fine. The replacement phones are in very good condition but the screens dont work. I wonder what they will do for me now?

The replacement phone was suposed to come with a new simm card. And as the customer service rep said to me, "The simm cards often are damaged when they are removed that is why we include a new simm card with each replacement phone".

Not only are the refurb phones of poor quality, their shipping department isn't paying attention when they pack the replacements into the boxes.

If you have ever removed a simm card you might have noticed all the little dents made by the spring loaded contacts pushing on the card, the grooves in the card made by the contacts as the card is removed and how the card becomes warped.

Anymore coments from the educated burrows?

Personally, you must try to realise the truth: You may have received my defective phone, or the next guy's returned phone...
#1 does not degrade functionality, so you cannot return it under this premise.
#2 Is an aesthetic issue, however it sounds like a defect. I would consult RIM for exact specification.
#3 is a major issue. ANY screen should not be flickering. Light bleed (although to me=is not acceptable) is almost standard with LCD's.
#4 may sound petty to others, but the fact remains you pay insurance for a replacement phone. NOT a used phone.

Contact ASURION, and kindly, (but assertively) ask for a replacement.
Making sure to cite the issues herein.
