Default rant...SEARCH!!!!!

ok, so, i started off in these forums thinking "why do people flame people for asking questions that are already answered in here? it's not that big of a deal"

BUT...

now that i've been here for a little while now and have seen just how many people ask questions that are SO easy to find the answer to......WTF??!?!

i mean...people ask stuff like "how do i get the new beta OS?"

gee...i dont know...maybe look in the thread titled "NEW BETA OS .xxx"

come on people!

ok...end of rant.

I can understand your position pretty well. I get new users asking for things they can easily search for, although I don't condone it. However, people who as questions of which the answer is right in front of them (it would take more time to type the question than to look at the list of stickies) really get on my nerves. I don't flame, but I certainly am not happy about it. There is something to be said about no knowing where to look, but those posts are akin to not knowing what the weather is like because you're too stupid to look outside.

The worst I ever saw was a guy asking stuff right out of the Verizon phone manual that came with it. That was rather annoying.

There should be some kind of a stickied banner or warning, that should prequalify people, like:
What is your issue?
Did you search?
What search words did you use?
Did you try changing search words around?
Did you try googling your question?

Warning: If you create a new thread, and the question has been answered million of times, you will be banned for a week and your thread will be deleted!!!

Same goes for people that post info like:
VZW tech told me this or that....
When is official OS coming out?....

Warning: If you start a new thread and do not post any valid information with solid proof, your thread will be deleted and you will be banned for seven days!!!

But if you don't tell those people to search first, even if it takes you longer to type your frustration, they will NEVER learn and they will just keep on starting pointless threads that irritate everyone!!!

Every forum should have a sticky search tutorial post (closed so it doesn't become a discussion.) I could just put a link to it in a signature and answer with:

A lot of people don't get it

They also don't get that if you type a certain word in and no results come up, that you may need to MODIFY/CHANGE to a different word!!!

Did you do a search before you posted this?

JK LOL! I couldn't help myself. Yeah, I've noticed the past couple of months the same questions get asked over and over again. Doesn't bother me though, because I asked stupid questions when I joined (still do ) and I think its encouraged some great tutorials. And if its something really retarded or the poster seems way to lazy, I don't respond

That's the real problem - people getting all worked up and responding. If no one responded the threads would fall off the first page and go away.

Yeah but can you imagine how many people are on these forums? It would be really hard to tell everyone to not respond or if no one responds, they would keep posting until someone does.
