Reading these reviews has actually convinced me NOT to get a Storm. And I was really looking forward to it.

Typing and browsing are the main things I need the phone for, but it sounds like it's difficult on both counts. I don't want another "learning curve." Dealing with my Pearl's crappy keyboard for the past year has been challenging enough.

Looks like I may have to use my annual credit on a Curve. Bummer.

Just upgraded from my Verizon curve on Saturday. The jury is still out for me. I LOVE the screen and the touch scrolling but the fact that the screen is a big button is just strange to me. To tell you the truth, it makes me feel like it's broken--the fact that the whole screen moves. Right now, I'd say I really like it...although I wanted to love it. I will stay with it and be patient as I think the typing experience will improve with time.

In all honesty, the best part about the storm for me is that my husband has FINALLY come over to the crackberry world and upgraded from his palm centro to the storm. In the past, he wasn't too excited about blackberry, but now that he's using the storm, he's hooked!

I like the phone. You get to interact with it more by the touch screen which is fun no matter what kind of small problems you are experiencing.

I really wish the screen was a widescreen.

I've had a pearl on Tmo for the past 2 yrs and I voted "completely happy." I believe the problem lies in expectations. I wasn't too thrilled about the thought of clicking the screen so my expectations were set somewhat low. After using the tiny pearl for so long and getting the Storm on Friday, I've been a kid in a candy store ever since. I'm a theme freak so my only disappointment is the lack of themes. I've been a BB user in general for prob 6yrs or so, I remember when BBs came w/ a variety of themes just to start u off. *sigh*

Other than that, I think it's great. I think so many ppl have been hyped up by the advertisements and the comparisons to the iPhone, that they were expecting... well... the iPhone. But being a BB user for so long, I guess I've come to expect RIM's style when releasing a new phone. And in comparison to past BB new releases, this surpassed my expectations.

I purposely waited a few days before participating in this vote. I think folks need to give the storm a proper adjusting to time period, it is different than anything RIM ever came out with before. I'm a "completely happy" camper with my storm... I am missing some of the 3rd party app's that aren't available for the storm yet though (like Viigo).

ALEX...I didn't have a problem with your review of not liking the phone...that's fine.

I had a problem with your cynicism, sarcasm, and un-cool joking at sabotaging the phone upon its return...that just pretty much clues us in on your strangeness.

Why are my posts wasting your time? OP asked what our opinion was and why.

I gave my opinion, if you don't wanna read people's opinions then what the HE.LL are you doing on THIS thread?

and if negative feedback on the storm is unappreciated then a thread asking opinions on the storm may not be the place for some. If you want to har how great it is - watch the commercials. If you want to see how users feel - read here.

And I realize I'm in the minority and if you LOVE the storm, more power to ya'! I don't wanna rain on anyone's parade. Enjoy, many happy years of storm use. It just wasn't for me

My issue is NOT just with the keyboard being hard to type on. There were many other little annoyances.

However, some good things...

--The battery cover is SWEET - it's and resists fingerprints wonderfully.
--There's an option to select custom ringtones per contact that can be a different for email, SMS, etc - without having to create a custom profile with an exception and then disable the exception when going to vibrate - I don't know if I explained that well - but it's a sweet function. If you have a storm go to the address and "edit" and check it out.
-- the slide show of pics is beautiful.

Still doesn't erase the myriad of issues and problems and in general I give it an emphatic thumbs down.

I'm definitely in with the satisfied group. I also try to keep my expectations in check. It's a phone after all and I know there will never be the complete perfect device that is made to my every desire and need which also happens to be with my carrier.

That being said, I was skeptical about the screen, the OS and overall just leaving my WinMo phone for something I was not familiar with. I've had mine since Friday and I surprised to say that I'm hooked. Sure it has an occasional lag or glitch but I've never had a machine that didn't at some point.

Bottom line is that this phone works for me, it fits my expectations on what I wanted and it's just plain fun to use. Heck it's even got me posting in a forum about it!

I have no intention of returning this phone.

Default Liking it so far

I have no idea how I lucked out but I got one of 3 units at an official VZW kiosk in a Circuit city @ 5PM on the 21st. Every other verizon store int he area was sold out but I just happened to work by the one CC that had a unit left.

I like the phone so far although that may have a lot to do with the fact that it's my first BB. I had an LG Dare when it first came out and returned it to wait for the storm. I'm happy I did.

I have not really experienced any lag problems asside from the first few hours with the Storm. that was before the platform (not the OS) changed back to 4.0.0.76 from 4.0.0.8X. The OS on mine is 4.7.0.65.

My biggest complaint so far is the mute button. If I'm on a call and use my right shoulder to hold the phone to my ear )so I can do 3 things at once, and isn't multitasking a way of life for BB owners) I end up pressing the mute button and the person on the other end of the phone can't hear me. That's annoying. I could put a hard plastic case on the phone to prevent that but then the phone is less "pocketable" and I refuse to rock a holster. Also, hiding the keyboard is a bit of a PITA but that little complaint won't prevent me from keeping the phone.

Many times when I lay the phone down it goes to landscape. A call comes in and I go to pick up the phone and click on answer and the screen orientation changes. Unfortunately whent he orientation changes the Ignore button is now where the Answer button used to be. I've sent a few people to VM by accident already.

I do make a number of mistakes when typing on the QWERTY keyboard but less mistakes than I made on the Dare. I dig the suretype due to the large size of the buttons but use the QWERTY from time to time when I need to type something more intricate.

I do have a concern about the screen mechanism's fit into the phone. There is a noticeable gap, which you're all aware of. My concern with the gap is will my pocket link perpetually work its way into the inner workings of the phone and cause problems?

Final verdict is:
I really like the phone and will keep it. I have a few minor complaints but nothing too serious. Hopefully the new updates for the phone will make it even better than it is.

I like this phone, its my first blackberry so I really dont know how to use it except browse. I'm gonna put music on it tonight. Anyways when I'm typing to put the cursor on a letter I have to use my finger to put the cursor where I want. which can be a big pain, anyone know an easier way?

Default Contacts

There is a program that works on other Blackberrys, they did it for me from a Chocolate to a Pearl. May not work for 4.7 yet or your rep may have been stupid. Export your old ones from Backup Assistant as a .csv and import them to Outlook - then sync with BB

How do you export your contacts out of the Backup Assistant online? All I saw was a print option which doesn't help at all.

Thanks!

Default Glad I listened to the advice on here

I bought my storm on Friday am and spent most of the rest of the day becoming progressively disappointed. The more I played with it the more frustrated I became. There seemed to be endless glitches and bugs and by Saturday morning I had it boxed up and ready to go back to the store. Then I went on this forum and read several posts about how to adjust settings, encouraging me to give it more time etc. so I took it out of the box and gave it another shot...

...well, keeping it was the best move I've made. I'm much more comfortable with it and while there are still many things to learn and glitches to be fixed, I'm REALLY loving this phone now and I appreciate those that said "give it more time."

Don't throw the towel in on this thing too fast - I am SO glad I kept mine.

You're not the only person to have this problem...I noticed the same thing myself...however, 3 days after picking mine up, I've noticed that it's "loosened" up a little...

First i would like to say i am not a noob and have had a 8830 for well over a year now. I am satisfied with the Storm. It does what i need it to do even if at sometimes it doesn't react as quickly as i would like it to. My only complaint is i can not get use to typing on it. That may be due to my fat thumbs LOL! I do not like how it try's to correct your typing. This may be a setting that i can turn off but i just have not really had the time to check.

the only bug/glitch i have seen on mine is the message indicator will not show up on the home screen when i receive a new message. But if i click on the blackberry(menu) button the indicator will show up?

One thing i am really impressed with is the sound and video. It is really good! I can not wait to load a movie and watch it. The screen is very clear. Did i mention the Babylon trailer! WOW! Nice!

Thumbs up Cons are "fixable" for Storm; for others not so much...

I have had my Storm since Friday morning (number 28 our of 40) at our local Verizon store. There are plenty of pros on the Storm and a few cons. Everything that you could/can do with another model BB is possible (or will be) and then some. The typing is neither here nor there for me. I am just as fast on this after a few days as I was on the 8830. The lag between screens is an issue, but it could be corrected with updates in the future. I am even running some old versions of apps until the Storm versions come out. So it is backwards compatible to a point (screen limitations).
The key here is most if not all of the Storm cons everyone is mentioning are correctable in the software which does not require me to buy a new Storm. The older BB models are still viable if you want those. All of the issues people find with the iPhone are only correctable by buying a new iPhone (i.e. expandable memory, changeable battery, etc.).
That said, this is a great step for RIM and it is definitely a platform with more potential than the current iPhone or even other BB models for that matter. That makes the Storm currently the superior smart phone. Now can RIM get updates out for the issues and can vendors update apps and create new ones fast enough to meet demand.
