Angry My Day to Rant.

My Storm can go f**** itself! I am on my 2nd (replaced) BB Storm .My media player keeps screwing up. Phone freezes. And I swear it screws with my head with this crazy volume level freak out. I use a hand full of apps continuously at any given moment. Why? Because I have to. I need to. This is why I got this phone. I can't delete any more items for memory. If I delete anything else the damn phone is going to become a freakin damn phone! I'm not looking for any advice. I can try to fix what I can from past inquiries from this site (done it quite often) which is an awesome site by the way. It's just the fact that I have to do this just to make the phone work they way it should be working. So why am I "working" for BB and not getting paid? One more year. I love verizon but I need a more dependable phone. I sure hate to be on the side of the road and have to wait to dial 911 because my storm decided that that was the best time to reboot itself. fml

Feel better champ? I understand your frustrations as I've experienced most of them myself. I've come to the conclusion that what I've enjoyed the most from storm ownership is due solely to my experiences here at CB. Tweaking and loading leaked OS and hybrids to see what happens was exciting for some time but now its clear that this device had peaked long ago and it just never quite met my needs.

Limited app space, horrendous media player, dated browser, and poor memory management have just kept this phone from "wowing" me. Not that its been all bad but just not great. I still feel worse for the occasional John Q. Public I run into using 4.7.0.148 with no idea about OS updates or CB. I would have thrown mine out the window long ago...

Maybe you should look for an S2 on Craigslist.
I smashed my S1 into pieces a long time ago!

It's good to be able to rant from time to time. Storm's haven't been the ideal phone for many people.

random reboots and flaky app performance have happened to some, but really, it's not the norm. What OS version is on it, and what extra apps have you loaded on it?

Hi, everyone. Wow, didn’t think anyone would care since there are LOADS of storm rants on this site. Funny, but not, lol. I do feel better that I got it off my chest. Phone still sucks. lol. But when it does work, it's fabulous. @Snarfler I'm running v5.0.0.328. I have for device memory 879.2mb total and 830.9 free. These are the apps I have left after deleting a few, Vlingo (love it, helps because I'm a writer), my Verizon, weather bug, slacker radio, Podcasts, Pandora, V case Id song (I'm a music freak), Lister (awesome!), VZ navigator (for work and travel), Mobile checkbook, Crackberry (of course), blackberry wallet (eBay princess for all things Star Trek (geek)), RED tipper (a bit hard to use with storm, I may delete but its functional), gmail, Mango, Ubertwitter (will NEVER let this one go, lol), visual voice mail, flicker and app world (yes, I know it is a battery hog itself. I usually don’t have this app but sometimes it’s easier to download then from Crackberry if I'm on the go.) And there you have it!

My contract isn’t up till next April. So I can deal for now. I'll just do a wipe and reinstall the OS. This site is awesome and so are you guys. Any one looking at a different type of phone when the time comes?

@Rob Thanks. However, I've already increased my Prozac.

The question is where is your application memory at? There are some applications that cause memory leaks after a while, which can get you down to 0MB on your application memory, and your phone will not work.

I have tried some of those... Weather Bug always seem to cause me problems, but I know it react differently with different versions. But that is a long list of applications.

After you reinstall your OS and use "Shrink-A-OS"... try reinstalling you application one at a time or just a couple and give them some time and see where your memory is. That way you might can find the ones that use the most memory and that you might not want to have.

I think you were right when you said the S1 just hit its limit and its not getting any better. I don't have any real advice and I think the S1 tips are just about dead. Most S1 owners are rapidly approaching their contact expiration. I feel your pain. I didn't hate my S1, but its clear to me that the hardware was bad (4 replacements in the first year for me) and the software WAS bad, and got better. But it could not overcome the tiny application memory. It will be a good backup for me.

Well, hello again. Yesterday, received my 3rd refurb storm 1. LOL. So looney. I must confessed though. With all of the problems storm 1 has, I still love this freaky sh*tty a** phone. The rep at the verizon store yesterday whipped out the Droid X that was to be on display today. I saw that thing and thought it was a remote control. IT HUGE! I think I'll play the patient game. so many different phone coming to verizon by the end of this year. so overwhelming and exciting. But I love my storm (single tear). Let's just see what happens.

@Rob I did get that valium after all
@Scalemaster Thanks for the advice. I will try that with this phone. trying to reinstall things slowly and see how the memory goes.

Thanks for all of the responses! Cheers!

Dunno if anyone suggested this yet, but ditch the "My Verizon" app for sure, every time I have had it installed it eventually kills my app memory taking up something like 29MB! Just check your info on the web site and leave this app in the garbage can.

Default Storm 1 replacement

Getting my 6th replacement for my Storm1 since Feb 2009. Should get it today, Verizon told me yesterday they would ship it last night and overnight it. I asked for a different phone, being as how I am on #6, but they said no. I have an upgrade, but don't want to use it for fear something good is coming out, like Storm3, so I am going to stay with Storm1. At this rate, I am replacing them every 3 months like clockwork. But, Verizon won't budge on giving me a different phone.

Heh... yeah blackberries have multitasking, but how can we truly test it when we cannot download that many applications?

As for people that love their BB storm - try downloading more applications. As you use up more application memory, the phone grows progressively slower, with assistance from memory leaks... ugh I am not getting another Blackberry (I have been using BBs for a long time, all the way back from the trackwheel era)

Hello everyone! very interesting responses. Here's my update. I did a security wipe once i realized that the previous owner settings were still in place. I began adding only the apps I use regularly. I will say though when it didnt have any apps loaded, this sweetie ran like a champ. So I'm currently trying out different apps that are the most functional for me and deleting those that take up way too much app memory. Of course with battery pull, clearing out logs, closing out programs running in the background and such i normally stay around 27mb for app. So not bad. Not going to use my upgrades and April is when it is time to renew my contract, so the less apps the better my phone runs the happier this woman will be. I still haven't decided on which phone i would like by then. But I will be checking out plenty of reviews. I need memory and loads of entertainment (news, music, video, games). So it might be byebye to BB . In the meantime, if necessary, I'll just keep replacing until that "xmas in April" time comes. You guys have a great day!!!
