| | I'm done this memory limit with BB
Im done i have been using blackberries for business for several years now but with the poor memory limit I am looking to switch device.
I have a blackberry storm 9530. my application free is only 15mb, and my device free memory is 845mb, and my sd card is 7.5GB free. I am at the point where i install an application it runs low on memory and you cant use either of the two other memory pools. What is the point of having 1gb internal if its reserved for something you dont use it for because you have an SD card.
I think i might go to a samsung android

Aww too bad to see you go! Maybe with another BlackBerry you would have been happier, but we will definitely miss you. Please write back when / if you cross borders!

| | Interesting, I have been doing business with my 64 Mb BlackBerrys for a couple years now and I am satisfied with it's performance.

Meh, I don't like the lack of memory either, but according to my bb rep they are coming out with a bb that will be able to store apps to the memory card

You probably just have a ton of unnecessary apps and themes you don't use so delete them. Your probably saving pictures and videos somewhere other then your sd card which takes up space and your probably not doing enough battery pulls. And set your messages to delete after 15 days and only save the one that are extremely important.
At the end of the day its not the phone that sucks, its the way you use it.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | You've made a lot of assumptions about the way the he's using his BB. My storm on BES has 3 company apps on it that allow me to access my companies database. This has used most of my app memory, so if I want to add something on there, I'm pretty much SOL.

I think i might go to a samsung android | I never understood this limmit it is such a bad design. I originally came from a window smartphone where storing apps on an external drive was the norm. I was shocked to see the BB OS have this restriction.
However be careful the android and the iPhone they also come with this limmit. The only difference with the iPhone is it comes with GBs so you don't fill the constraint as you do with the BB.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | A phone shouldn't require battery pulls to keep it functioning properly. You also shouldn't have to delete messages extremely often either, regardless whether they are useless or not.

with the 9550 you'll dont have this issue. It's almost impossible to fill up the app memory...
I have a 9700 and still remains 110mb...

| | expanding the memory
Yeah, this 25 mb of "application memory" is weak... it wasn't the case during the last OS (before I upgraded to OS5.0.whatever) I had a bunch of apps... Now all i have are some very bare essentials (google maps, poynt, etc) and i still get bugged all the time... is there a way to expand the 25mb? that seems like a ridiculously small amount, why did they set that as the limit?

Same here. I set message retention to forever and I'm lucky if I can see my emails/SMS for more than 31 days back.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | One should never ever have to do a battery pull.
One shouldn't have to delete messages if they have an SD card
One shouldn't have poor performance due to low memory when they have opera, google maps, and youmail installed.
Blaming the person instead of the device flaws has never worked out well for any company.

With the size of the applications, it's actually a fair bit of space. Excluding a jailbreak on an iPhone, you can only fit 11 pages of apps, and the first one is basically full, so 10. At 16 apps, that's only 160 apps.
With a 9700 / 9550 / 8900 / 9630, there have been members that just install EVERYTHING to see how far that goes. The highest I've seen was howarmat with 130 apps (+ I think) and 40-50mb free, meaning he could easily fit another 30+ apps on there, surpassing the stock iPhone's app limit.
So maybe you should just look into a newer device?
