Default headset doesn't show up in options, nor does it work.

Self explanatory. Third storm.

This morning, no headset. It doesn't even show up in the menu. I wiped it and reinstalled the OS to no avail.

Exactly what kind of headset are you trying to use? A bluetooth or a 3.5mm one?

yep always the user never the device the NY times called the "blackberry dud." If you wake up one day and you only hear audio on one side, or it lacks center material due to lack of ground, it's wear and tear, but this is ridonkulous.

It's a 3.5 mm. I ran for my hakko 851 to put a new one in but apparently in the storm it's one entire assembly of ribbon cable going to the camera, headphones, and other portions of the phone. I'm going to try swapping the whole piece with the camera from an old F'd storm and see if that does it.

Ok, I took apart the old storm, which was storm #2. This was a refurb.

I put it in here, and my headphone jack worked. Yay. But, it was slow as ****, and the click didn't register half the time.

I looked at it closely when I took it out. I saw what I recognize anywhere: cigarette smoke. That board was so stained it probably added to its weight. God damn.

I put it through my Crest ultrasonic machine for 2 min with distilled water and some Branson EC and put that board in, and I have a working storm.

a) Why the **** are refurb phones put together with boards that have layers of nicotine on them?

b) Why is the headphone jack absolutely, 100% impossible to remove without changing this whole board?

I've always wondered about the telecoms' refurb policies and what actually qualifies as QA for these corps. sad times
