Default google maps vs blackberry maps

Why is it blackberry maps can acquire a GPS lockon in 10 seconds but google maps will default to cellphone tower trianglation 50% of the time and give me a location within 600 meters after saying GPS not available at this time?

It drives me crazy.

Stick to version 3.0.2 on google Maps. The newer version is even less accurate. I am frustrated by using BB maps for anything other than sending my location. Google Maps works better for directions and local area searches etc. I awaite the answer to your question also. It will be enlightning if anyone knows.

IMO Google maps is FAR better than BB Maps (i've deleted the BB maps just for more memory). Just be sure your GPS settings are always on - and that your Google maps permissions are set to allow full interaction.

I've also deleted BB Messanger to use Google Talk - apps are much more a Google forte than RIM's.

Probably because you're leaving GPS aware apps open when you're trying to use Google Maps. If another app has polling control over the GPS chipset in the Storm, Google Maps will not poll it and default back to My Location status.

Also, 5.0.0.328 is prone to bad GPS timeouts with Google Maps sometimes. Update to .419 to fix this.

And while you're at it, update your profile please... it still says you're using a Curve.

Go figure at a year old the kinks still aren't worked out. I haven't changed my profile because I am embarrassed to own this thing.

I have no other apps on that use the GPS.I will try .419 and see how that turns out.

Why not just bump your other thread where you complain about the same thing?

He won't answer because he has a life(and a job)

A job made slightly more difficult by only being able to see where I am within 1000 meters even when google maps is allowed access to location data with location set to "on"

I complain about storm issues in storm rant forum threads. You troll storm criticizers in storm rant forum threads. Don't act sanctimonious on me

I know it shouldnt make a difference what kind of cell signal you have but it does seem to make a difference with me. When I am in EVDO the gps & google locate me within 4 inches (ok I exaggerate) but it does locate me quickly & when I have poor signal it takes longer to locate me or wont locate me at all

I have had ZERO problems with google maps (or my phone as well) - however I did "brick it" the other day (my fault totally) and I had to have a Verizon store restore my OS (now that's a total wipe). Fortunately I backup regularly, only to discover that I hadn't backed up 3rd party apps since last March ... so instead of restoring all those apps I went ahead and did a clean, new install of various 3rd party apps ... including google maps. And once again Google Maps (v3.2.1) works perfectly !!!

just sayin .....
