Default falling in love all over again

As one who frequents this forum can see, I am hard on my stuff. I expect it to be fast, responsive, and never F up, all the time. Because the time that it does slow down is when I will need it most. I am usually carrying a 45 lbs bag around a crowded city responding to one client as another calls me as I am entering a new job into my calender info, and the phone has to be able to ride with it.

I RAVED about my 8703e. However, in the process, I made a mistake many do with relationships, life, and devices. I remembered it as so much better than it actually was.

The momentary holdups on the .328 storm are nothing compared to the general, always-semi-existant lag on the 8703e, or the constant hourglasses(which I remember on the curve as well). If you password protect the device it became notably slower. If you select strongest in the security options for encryption you can barely even use the scrollwheel without going one at a time. and yes, while google maps can suck on the storm and not register a swipe until 15 seconds later when it swipes you 8 miles more than you wanted it to, the load time on the 8703e and curve for the maps is abominable by comparison.

The storm has its faults, but I have to say, after using the 8703e and a curve a little bit again, my expectations have been lowered. I was expecting the phone to be a quad core athlon and that's unrealistic, it's not a computer. It's still just a phone.

I missed the real estate to get insight into what an email is about before clicking on it, and the calender management is much easier here.

I reactivated my storm this morning, and hope to get some enjoyment out of it before my new every 2 arrives.

My only gripe right now is the GPS is unavailable half the time, but seeing as this is the only blackberry on verizon where I can use its GPS with google maps, I'll live!

The storm 2 does not seem like enough of an upgrade all included for me to consider shelling out $200 on it come june, even with my present storm being the beaten down old beamer that it is. I guess I'll have to hold out for storm 3

It's weird how we can build things up in our minds... I made the mistake of buying a Heman DVD to watch with some friends and relive the glory days of our youth.

Man that was a mistake and a half.

I like my storm a bit better now. I had changed it in for a curve, but just recently turned it back on again and the reception is much better for some reason.

Wait til the memory begins dropping...that alone made the S2 worth it.

But hey if you can stomach it...Storm3 will be out by the end of this year. Some insiders have given a few insights on it and what they've thought of it so far...

OS 5.1...reworked user interface
Double the memory of the current S2
Webkit browser
Upgraded camera
Significantly thinner and lighter (ala iPhone)
No slide out QWERTY (rumors suggested otherwise but this is not true)
Surepress
Higher resolution screen

Even though the user admits he only used it for 5 minutes, he currently owns a Droid (want to read his account...he's a mod over at the Droid forums) and even he admitted this phone blows it out of the water in terms of the browser and the screen he put, was simply the best he's ever seen.

He did admit that the browser wasn't any faster than the Droid or iPhone 3GS...he did not say whether or not the S3 supported LTE...if it does...then browsing speeds would also blow the 3GS and Droid out of the water once LTE becomes live....for obvious reasons.

Of course, one would hope that an upcoming phone is better than phones that came out last year. It'll be interesting to see what Palm, Apple, and Google have up their sleeves as they all are also releasing next gen software and devices this year.

Me thinks the smartphone wars will heat up quite nicely in 2010 and we'll have tons of nice new gadgets to look forward to as the year goes on.

In reading that thread that spilled some details on the S3...I noticed the folks who replied (presumably other Droid users) were impressed with what they read and said they were looking forward to seeing the device in action later this year...judging by the overall optimism in their responses, it became glaringly apparent the Droid users here have not yet migrated to their own dedicated forum.

if it's LTE, i'll hop on it for sure. That's what I'm waiting for. If they can bring a cleaner storm experience whilst keeping my beloved click screen (with improvements of course) on an LTE ready phone, then I might just stay in camp RIM for a while longer... but there are still a bunch of devices coming out this year so we'll see how things pan out

thanks for the update fecurtis

Update: I got a few more minutes with the device today so a few extra things of note.

1. The version of the ever popular google maps with turn by turn voice navigation was loaded and worked beautifully.
2. The phone is 4G compatible
3. Internally the phone is known as S3-i1 however a newer prototype to be finished shortly will be dubbed S3-d5.
4. RIM is trying to finalize the software and hardware so it can makes it's public debut during WES, April 2010
5. The phone will be released this year and is being marketed to compete directly against the Android.
6. The model number for the S3 = 958*
