Default Droid/iphone commercials are klling the storm

Just admit it people. The droid and iphone commercials are making the storm look stupid. When my wife and I are watching these commercials we both look at each other, shrug and say "oh well".
The way technology is moving the storm is just a step behind. Take it from me and thousands of others, the first storm has failed in many categories its not even funny anymore.
Say what you want, I'm going on my forth storm in 4 weeks. I would say to my self about others.... "how in the world are these storm users going through so many phones?". And now both my wife and I are experiencing it first hand.
And all RIM is telling me is....."All You Need is Love"????? REALLY?????

I would hope so...the Storm1 is over a year old and the Storm2 is leaps and bounds better.

Besides, Verizon is really pushing it's Droid this holiday season so it's not surprising.

Given RIM's 3Q results (http://crackberry.com/press-release-...uarter-results) I wouldn't worry too much, their "All you need is love" ad campaign appears to be working.

RIM Profit Margins May Narrow - BusinessWeek

Quote:
Going Mainstream

The deals reflect goals by co-Chief Executive Officer Jim Balsillie to make RIM a more mainstream brand and boost sales volume. The discounts at Walmart and Amazon.com helped catapult the Curve to the No. 1 spot in smart-phone sales last quarter, supplanting Cupertino, California-based Apple's iPhone, according to NPD Inc. in Port Washington, New York. The retailers declined to break out BlackBerry sales.

RIM aims to make the Curve as popular with students as its first devices were with bankers. The shift comes as financial services lost 344,000 jobs since 2007 amid the economic slump.

"With the first BlackBerry, I thought it was all corporate and ugly," said Sam Pulanco, 28, a pastor in San Francisco who has had a Curve for two years. "When the Curve came out, it looked sleek, and the way they marketed it really appealed to the twenty-something person."
Like any company, RIM isn't invincible and still has some dangers and issues to overcome but I'd hardly claim that RIM is in any sort of trouble.

Like any company, the key when making many different models of phones (an advantage RIM has over competitors like Apple) is to make your most affordable phone have plenty of bang per buck as the cheapest phone will be the highest seller...like with companies like BMW. Their best selling car isn't their top of the line, halo 7 Series...but their 3 Series BMW.

I was lucky with my Storm1 and never had to get another one and I had it since launch, I ditched it for the Storm2 the day that launched and surprisingly, haven't even had to pull the battery once. In fact, the only time I've ever even rebooted the thing, is when I delete or install/update an app that requires a reboot afterwards *knocks on wood*.

My friends with Storm2's have had the same good fortune and while I have friends with Storm1's who are unhappy, I've found that my friends with Storm2's couldn't be happier (they decided to buy one over the Tour once they messed with my phone, even they commented on how better it was over my original Storm1...and that even ran on the leaked 5.0 OS).

While many would agree the Storm 1 had many challenges, for the most part a year after its release, those firmware problems have been ironed out. As for the Storm 2, I believe that was a good answer to the Storm 1, but not necessarily to all touchscreens on the market. I agree with tm32140; the fact is the iPhone is a household name and the Droid is definitely making its mark. And I do believe the "All You Need is Love" campaign is a bit week, although it does make the Blackberry name more common place and that is important. However, fercurtis really hits it on the nose and today's earnings reiterate that RIM is not in any sort of trouble. In fact they seem to have a working strategy in this less than stellar market. I would love to see more innovation beyond adding more RAM and a touchpad, but this competition that makes the Storm series look bad will ultimately be good for us.

Finally, while this could be seen as a bit of stretch, I do not believe the Storm series was meant to be a flagship device, even for the CDMA carriers. Personally, I think the Tour and subsequent Tour 2 are meant to be the CDMA device, with the Storm for those that want a touchscreen device. The GSM carriers have the Bold, and the 9700 I believe is as good as it gets for Blackberries. Maybe I'm horribly off, but I think RIM's differentiation strategy is not their touchscreen series, but rather their solid qwerty devices.

i am on my first and havent had any problems... go to each forum there are complaints about every phone and every system. Remember when the tour was the next big thing .....there willl always be the next big thing, Based upon what you need there is a phone that can do it. And at the same time there is someone to complain about it ... to each his or her own.. telling people to admit something YOU believe is silly...You shouldnt base your purchase on dumbass commercials anyway. Like they say if you cant find the sucker at the table it is prob you.

So you join CB and the first thing you do is bash blackberries??? Good job slick. Obviously you're bitter about your s1- we get it. Most people were. The s2 is a million times better. Droid is cool and the iphone is good for apps but I absolutely love my s1 AND my s2 as do thousands of others.

For a failure, my Storm sure is a wonder device. I never miss an email. I can get any piece of information on the fly that I use to win bets with a friend who's always challenging me. Today I streamed NPR for a few hours, listened to music for a few more. I did all this while I sent/received several texts, a couple of Facebook comments and a few phone calls. A minute ago, a friend mentioned the light show in Hong Kong that goes on nightly. I pulled up a YouTube video of it instantly. No glitches, no lagging.

I get this level of performance out of my S1 day after day. Yeah, the device is a real failure.

So. Just. Go. Away. and weep for what you THINK you're missing.

My gf got a Droid...returned it after 4 days...it was way too complicated for her. The big KILLER: voice dial sux. Also, you can NOT use voice dial with a bluetooth headset! Hard to believe with so many states having hand-free cellphone laws in place. I had a MotoQ (what a wet dream that was) before my S1...I have the same S1 since the 1st day it launched and have had ZERO problems...perhaps I'm one of the lucky ones...but often times the problems with high end cellphones is ESTO...(Equipment Superior To Operator!)

I have had "ONE" S1 since March 09, and still have "ONE" S2 since release day in Oct 09, for every 1 user you see out here complaining of the problems they had( which I agree there was quite a few bad ones in the batch, my Dad included) there' is probably 20-30 others who have a perfectly GOOD one. Obviously your not gonna hear much from them.

Droid is far from garbage. I had a Storm since launch day untill the droid launched. Im sure things have improved, but since email isnt a Huge deal for me, the droid blows the storm out of the water. Battery Life for me is Great, actually better than my storms.

And yeah you can go to any website and find complaints, but you cant deny that the storms are behind the droid and iphone within regards to the OS and other things.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

I had my storm from day 1 and while its bugs pissed me off some, the phone didnt have any real problems until the 5.0 OS came out and my phone stopped charging so they replaced it with a refurb and it had issues with the screen click so they sent out another refurb that had screen click issues, then another refurb and again the screen had problems, it would get stuck down, then the next refurb came and again the screen was sticking down and this was right out of the box before I activated it, well that was enough for me, the droid arrives today

The only thing I don't like about my S1 is the OS app memory is always going down Other than that it works great while BIS is working properly.
