yeah no problem, I guess you just have to watch what you say and how you say it, I dont think you purposely meant to offend anyone & I agree to that jermeyblaze guy, I like free as much as the next person but we are most definitely not entitled to it, but it would be nice every now and then right?

I enjoy the creative process and have made themes because of that enjoyment and also to save from having to pay for something that I can make for free with the exception of Photoshop. There are other programs that are free that are almost as good though, so you can make themes without putting out any $. If you wish to try to do it yourself, I and many others I am sure would be glad to help you. There is a ton of info already posted in CB forums answering questions that most new developers have had.

Yeah, darn those hard working app developers. They should know better than to charge for their efforts! Don't they know it should all be free? Gee, to think of the nerve of some people wanting to get paid for their work!
I bet BHO is going to get right on it and put a stop to such crass capitalism!

Open source software spurs imagination and creativity. Another company, Microsoft, also charges for their software. Without diversity we wouldn't have Open Source solutions such as Fedora, Red Hat, Ubuntu, or CentOS and all the software packages that go along with each build.
Free software allows ideas and information to flow freely. - 06-27-2009, 10:18 AM #30
if everyone is entitled to their own opinion then i can call her a spoiled dummy and that be totally ok. you sound stupid, jedd, saying that she's entitled to her own opinion and not me. she has no concept of capitalism and i felt obligated to school her.
no she will be able to make it through the real world without walking into an established business and not crying about the lack of "free" stuff. Crackberry forums saved this poor dumb girl from embarrassing herself in real life with her crazy expectations. - 06-27-2009, 10:25 AM #31
Every now and then a thread like this pops up and you know, it's cool. There are PLENTY of great themes out there that are for free. PLENTY! Anything by ECruz is awesome, popular and FREE!
The thing here is you are asking for something you WANT to be free of charge. If you were asking for something you NEED to be free I think we all would be singing a different song. - 06-27-2009, 10:47 AM #32
Just to throw in my 2 cents: I've tried plazmic, and looks like it would take a ton of time to develop anything clean looking, so props to theme-makers, and more props to theme-makers that post theirs for free. =]

Ok- I am probably gonna get bashed for this but........I think the themes and apps that the developers here charge are insanely CHEAP!!! When someone puts something up with a donate button I usually donate at least 5x's the amount that they are sold for in the store. I know what I have gone thru and how much time it has taken me to figure out certain things on this phone- I am of the age where I wasn't brought up on a computer-- it takes me many times longer to do something just cuz I don't know all the lingo and in's and out's of things. I LOVE!!! and deeply appreciate the generousity of so many of the people on here who helped me out one way or another. My brother teaches this stuff for a career (and he has no patience with me-lol) and believe me he charges WAY more than the pitiful amount these people ask for.
So IMO---keep up the great work and I will forever be a happy paying CRACKHEAD!!!

My thinking is... how much would you pay for a case for your storm. A case that changes the way it looks and feels in your hand? Close to $30 on average. Now how come you feel ok spending that $30 but now $4 or whatever on a theme that does 100x more than a case to change the way you use your blackberry? Just my 2cents

I agree with the original post you know i see it like this why are there so many cool free apps for winmoble phones or for the G-1 and why are there so many free or cheap apps for the iphone but everything for the blackberry is like 3.99 or more........i understand that blackberries are for business executives that make millions and dont mind paying it but for us regular folk no

- 06-27-2009, 01:00 PM #37
Lol. I can assure you I am not a business exec. and I don't make millions- lol---but I can afford my Storm- and therefore if I want "stuff" for my Storm I would expect to pay for it. I agree with BBoyer-- the cases cost alot more than most apps. and I know alot of people who have several of them. These themes and apps make my phone a much better piece of entertainment- so I like to spend money and upgrade it the way I like.
I don't know why developers would want to keep pushing the buttons on making these better and better without the cash incentive. That warm fuzzy feeling you get from the thanks only goes so far.

It comes down to the size of the market. If I spend 100 hours developing something for a potential customer base of 100,000 users, I have to price the product according to how much my time is worth and how likely I will be to recoup that cost.
When you're an iPhone developer, you can spend the same 100 hours developing for that device but your market size is 10,000,000 users strong, so suddenly you can get away with charging $0.99 because there's a good chance you will get 10,000 orders vs. 1000 for a BlackBerry app.Creative Director of BlingBerry Themes

I don't think any of these themes are "free"; many developers like E ask you to donate if you enjoy the theme. And may I just point out that it seems that E isn't making themes any more. Coincidence? I doubt it. He probably got tired of seeing thousands of people downloading his themes and getting very few donations from people like you. So if you ask me, you should be paying for a theme no matter what, even if it's available for "free."
And as far as not having money to throw around, the last time I checked you could've gotten a free phone from your wireless provider (I'm assuming it's Verizon), but you decided to shell out some dough for a Storm. And if you didn't have a BlackBerry, you wouldn't have to pay forty or fifty bucks a month for a data plan. So pardon me if I don't believe you when you cry poverty. Most of these themes and apps cost between two and five bucks. - 06-27-2009, 01:22 PM #42

here is the way i see it. you spend $200+ for the storm, $100+ for your monthly bill. if you can afford your monthly bill you can stop being a cheap ******* and pay for the apps, games, and themes.

I didn't say you weren't entitled to ur own, I'm just saying th way you say it is rude. There can be a completely different way to convey ur opinion, calling her names is
Taking this to a different level that isn't necessary. If u think ur boss is wrong u don't go at them calling them names and telling them they don't know how to make it in the real world. Same goes with here..u can convey ur opposed opinion in a more chivalry way. Instead of trying to make her look like a dumbass ur making urself sound like an *******. - 06-27-2009, 01:39 PM #47
Ooops, didn't notice that had already been mentioned. I will sell you my nokia 6205 I had as an extra phone. Its practically new condition and you can have it for $50. What a deal, and then you'll have money to buy app for a phone that has no apps!

I wonder, as I did last night, if you would be so defensive if the op was a male. While name-calling is wrong, so is the concept that he should treat her different because she was a she.
Several of your posts chided the others because men were chastising a female, and here you talk about chivalry. Hopefully, you didn't mean to imply that you wouldn't have defended the op against name-calling if they had been male.Pearl ~> Pearl ~> Pearl ~> Storm ~> Storm - 06-27-2009, 02:27 PM #49
