Corrupted Keyboard - numbers on keypad interspersed with letters and can't dial

When I try to call my Verizon voicemail, the number keypad on the telephone is corrupted somehow, and only the 1 is visible. The rest of the numbers are covered by letters or weird display. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I just wipe my operating system and start from scratch? I am thinking that is the answer, but just thought I would check with other folks.

Its happened to me, but I figured I just wasn't smart enough to figure out how to switch back to the dialpad. LOL. I would just hit the end button. Hopefully its not a hardware issue and just a user issue on my part.
