| | Anyone else starting to hate the iPhone craze?
Hey all,
Is it just me, or is anyone else starting to loathe the iPhone with every ounce of their being? It's not so much the device itself that is the problem (its fun, and works, and I owned one for a little while), but the ungodly, and I mean ungodly, amount of favoritism and fanboism that it gets in the tech world. It honestly is disgusting. Its like there is something wrong with you if you don't worship the damn thing. The fact that its even called the "JesusPhone" makes me sick, its a bloody phone, not a religion (not that you can tell anymore).
Grawr...I'm just so tired of seeing every article on every major tech site hero-worshiping the iPhone, and treating this new 3.0 update like its the best thing since sliced bread. MMS, Copy and Paste, Push notifications...Woooo...like every smartphone ever made hasn't been able to do that for what, 10 years now? Good game Apple, totally reinventing the wheel there.
The only thing that really sets the damn thing apart from a.n.y. other smartphone is the quality of its touch experience, an advantage that's quickly coming to a close. Yeah yeah, there is the App Store, and yeah, its cool, and yeah...about 5% of the applications on there are actually pretty swank, IF you can wade through the 95% that are crap. But even then, people treat this whole "3rd party app" thing like its some mystical new experience. Hmm, last I checked I've been installing 3rd party apps on my Symbian and WinMo devices since before the iPhone was a twinkle in Steve Job's eye. Its true the App Store makes it much more convenient, but that's really it, convenience.
Annnywayy, I feel a bit better now. Thanks for hearing me out. >.<

well said sir, I cant stand the iPhone fanboyism. I think the phone is nice and all but thats it, it's a phone. Not only that but Steeeve takes forever plus a day to release updates, like MMS and push (no gmail haha), which should have been out months/years ago, just like they do with every other product. They try to suck up all the money they can for a product at the highest profit margin before they have to spend a dime to improve it. Hey Microsoft and RIM may not always release the most perfect products every time but they work like **** to improve them and do it pretty fast.

I agree. The IPhone is overrated and its getting old. Apple in general is as well. What it comes down to is status. Owning Apple products is a status symbol. The logo is a cry out to the world,"look at me, I own an apple!".
Don't get me wrong, they are good products, but most people buy them to fit in with the cool kids.

Hmm. No once I get to upload 3.0 I'll like my iphone that much more. But we will see how rims "gold code" will compare.
Like it or not agree or disagree, these phones are competing. The storm is what probably shook apple to come out with a new and improved os.
You're right, apple did reinvent the wheel and its more round and smoother than ever.
Apple just coming out with 3.0 is a brilliant business move for them. Keep the people waiting, generate a huge fan base and BAM grab everybody elses attn as well.
Its the phone we love to hate and hate to love.

Sadly, I hear where you're coming from. Most (not us though...lol!) iPhone users that I see are the equivalent of extreme religious folks (no offense to normal religious folks, OK?). They like to make sure everyone knows they have one, they like to flaunt it, push it on you, and just flat out annoy you with the fact that they are an iPhone "believer." Just going to dinner you know almost everyone in the restaurant who has an iPhone because they take it out and put it in the center of the table like it's a display piece. It's actually kind of embarrassing for me. Every time my partner pulls the iPhone out I want to say "put that thing away before someone sees it and thinks you're one of "them"!" LOL!
And yes I like the phone itself. It's very polished and nicely made. If it did everything my Storm does (some things I require) I might have one myself. Sadly, even after the 3.0 upgrade it's still going to have some deal breaking missing items that I won't deal with. But I'll be watching to see what Apple does with the next hardware revision!

I'm in no way cool. I never claimed to be, unless waking up every morning to look for a leaked OS is cool! Quote:

My wife wanted to get me an phone but I hate att and am loyal to Verizon. So she got me the Storm and I like it. I got her an ipod touch and now we are both happy. I'm totally biased to the storm now. And yes, I hate the coolness factor of the iphone. The new cool will be the storm when the OS becomes stellar. Hopefully soon.

i agree. i like the phone and thinks its a great device. i just cant stand all the people who own them and like stated above think they are God for owning it. its a damn phone people! i dont see why people always argue over it really. Apple does make good products and the majority of them are over priced. that is why PC easily outsells them (although PC gets a crap load from gov't and business). anyways i think the iPhone is a good device but i also think the Storm is an amazing device. I chose to buy a Storm and im damn glad i did!

All the me2Phone (Storm) owners would kill to have the Storm be like the iPhone.
That's why you all bought it. You wanted the "iPhone killer". You thought it would be everything the iPhone was and more only to find out you were mislead.
At the very heart of every Storm owner there is iPhone envy.

Why hate a device that should actually help the RIM produce better devices/OS/experience?
Think of how long the Storm would remain a turd if there was nothing to benchmark it against.
Then again, five months and no stable/smooth OS is pretty pathetic.
