Default 3 BIG problems...

I love this phone, (even though I bought it 2nd hand) but for these three problems which I just cannot get round...

1) Terrible battery life. Was about a day when it arrived (which is fine) but started to deteriorate faster and faster untill now the battery life is about 2-3 hours. I have a "battery saver" app which doesn't help at all, and I only run the five apps that I can't shut down (Browser, BBM, Home Screen, Phone, & Messages.)

2) CONSTANT freezing. It can freeze for hours on end, and if left alone for 10 minutes or so it freezes. If not left alone, it freezes even faster (usually). I have checked for wireless updates and there aren't any. I have a memory booster app which boosts every 2 hours and does seem to help a bit, but does not stop it freezing (although it usually freezes for up to 30 seconds before it actually boosts the memory)

3) Crap application memory. I thought that the Storm was supposed to have 1GB application memory. I realise you can't store apps on memory cards, which sucks (I have a 4GB memory card on which I store lots of Music and all my photos) I have 16 ("Third Party") apps installed, but they can't add up to more than 20MB all together.

PUZZLED AND FUSTRATED MUCHLY

Just to calarify: I have no app memory left, the freezing now occurs every few seconds and lasts even longer, and I have OS 5.0.0.841. I keep hearing about people having more recent versions of this (or I assume so as the last number is over 1,000) but I can't find any new versions on wireless updates, upon connecting to my PC (via USB) or even online. I am also having more trouble sending messages (and with freezing and lag) on BBM than ever.
Oh, and it's a Storm 9500, not 9530.

1. Probably a bad battery, especially in light of the fact the phone was obtained second-hand. My 9530 has excellent battery life, though I got my phone new. The problems you mention in 2 and 3, below, are also probably contributing to the lack of battery life.

2. What app are you using? I think some of those apps do more harm than good. I use MeterBerry and it works very well. But if you don't really have any app memory to work with in the first place, no memory boosting app is going to help.

3. Sixteen third party apps is going to test the limits of the stock Storm's paltry 128MB of app memory. If you want to keep that much on your device, you must "shrink" your operating system, getting rid of stuff that you don't need in favor of having room for stuff you want. There are a number of posts on this forum with instructions/suggestions on how to do that. Please search and you will find what I'm talking about. I wiped my 9530 and installed a shrunk .419 and ended up with over 45MB in app space free for actual apps. I have 12 third party apps on my Storm and still have close to 35MB free, so there's quite a bit of room for more stuff.

(I used the word "stuff" way too much in this post...sorry)

Good luck.

I won't keep more than 10 apps on my Storm. Check the memory in the options menu. If getting close to zero or is at zero, then reset your phone and delete unwanted apps. Thats why it is slowing down.

Sometimes I notice my phone's battery gets drained sooo quickly. This is because of zero memory and the processor is stuck in an app going full power, or the phone keeps trying to pick up data and 1X signal. Usually, the phone lasts 2 days.

Also, make sure you are running a newer latest OS. Please don't tell me you're running 4.7....

Thanks, I am using an app called Memory Booster Pro, and although it doesn't seem to stop the freezing, it does work noticably better when it's not frozen.

I'm running 5.0.0.841. Strangely, I am never prompted for any sort of updates when I plug the phone into this computer, or any other computers, whereas my Dad (he has some sort of Bold) says that he is prompted to update his phone's software reasonably regularly.

I have found an OS 6 Hybrid online, and am going to download it. One of my friends (he has a Pearl) said that he had frequent freezing problems, but then downloaded OS 6 and it just stopped.

Your OS should be fine. But yeah, try other OSes, they might be great!
Just a few notes:

If your computer doesn't prompt to update your Storm software, its just some change in preferences in the Desktop Manager or your Desktop manager isn't running. Its no problem.

I find that just keeping on the necessary apps installed permanently, and resetting the phone often keeps it from misbehaving...

Hope you end up loving your Storm again! I still do for its robustness, call quality, and general decentness in everything.
