Default Windows 7 - Future Purchase ?

Is there anyway I can get windows 7 with out actually spending $200 - $300 ?

I mean I bought an emachine laptop and for those who dont know what emachine is, well its not expensive at all (but surprisingly its one of the best laptops Ive owned). I paid just under $500 for it and I mean I dont wanna spend over half the price of my laptop to put windows 7 on my computer, any information would be greatly appriciated

on a serious note, if you know someone enrolled in college (or yourself) you can get home pro for 29 bucks, or 43 if you want the disk in the mail (i got a free copy of ultimate due to being in computer programming courses at school).

On a side note, i inherited a G5 iMac its really not THAT bad, if you had a Dell Mini 10v you could hackintosh that thing and it is pretty beast to be honest.

Well Ill deiffinetly have to check that out $29 isnt bad at all, and as for getting a mac personally I dont like them, I mean they are an amazing computer but there are just some minor things/changes I dont like compared to windows.

It takes some serious gettin used to, although im about to sell my iMac and get the new 30" one with the LED screen...that thing is sexy and its got a decent price tag for what it is. As much as i like the Magic Mouse it hurts my hand using it after awhile.

You could definitely pick up a G4 iMac with 1Ghz processor for like 130 (if even that much) with leopard on it and try it out. You'd be surprised that for a old *** computer it still runs like a champ.

Oh and whoever does it must have an .edu email cause they send a confirmation to that email address. You could prolly put up an ad on craigslist or something if you dont know anyone off hand, pay them 10-15 bucks and then the cost of the OS you still come out 60-200 bucks cheaper than what it could have been

Or you can enroll in a quarter continuing education course for something.... (photoshop, development, basket weaving... whatever) to get a student ID or enrolement number, and use that to buy the student version with.

Depends on when you bought that laptop. If it was bought fairly recently (as in right before W7 came out), you should have gotten a voucher for a FREE version of W7 with the device.

I would really prefer buying a new pc with windows 7 already installed in it! I think windows 7 is really worth it knowing that macs are too expensive for me..
